Novak Djokovic finally has its teeth in the 2025 US Open.
After two inconspicuous victories that attracted more attention to his conditioning than his shape, Djokovic produced a sharp 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-3 victory over a competitive Cameron Norrie Friday evening, albeit after more early match drama around his fitness.
“Yes, it’s okay,” said Djokovic Coyly when he was asked about his back during his interview on the field. “You have some ups and downs … you don’t want to reveal too much about the rivals who listen and watch this interview.
“I am good, man. I am as young as always, as strong as always. Yes. It is New York. Even if you feel something body, the energy you feel in this court simply surpasses.”
The seventh seed played a light-out first set in which he only dropped two points on Serve and 17 winners, but an off-Court medical time-out after the ninth match fans in Arthur Ashe Stadium was delivered about his prospects.
The four -fold US Open Champion grabbed its lower back in the first set after an uncomfortable movement on the net to bring back a ball that was up and behind his head. “In general it was probably the best serving performance of the tournament,” said Djokovic. “Of course I am happy about that. It is probably one of the most, if not, the most important shot in the game. So I am happy how I did that shot.”
In the fourth round, Djokovic will be confronted with the German Jan-Lennard Struff, who upset the semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7) of 2024.
