Tell us about yourself.

My name is Terrivano. I currently live in Barnegat, NJ, but I was born and raised in a small town north of Buffalo, NY. I am certified as a group fitness and pilates instructor, senior fitness specialist and nutrition coach. I am also the founder and CEO of Embrace Wellness with Terri, a company that I have made to help women older than 50 to reach sustainable weight loss without a diet. My goal is to help them sleep well and to live lively, pain -free lives with renewed energy and trust.

How did you initially become interested in health and well -being?

Already after my 1920s I had trouble achieving a balanced approach to manage my weight. Despite my dedication to diet and sports, my weight and emotions felt in an never-ending yo-yo cycle. At the age of 55, after going by the menopause, I noticed that I was wearing an extra 30 pound, making it the toughest I had ever been. I suffered from chronic inflammation and pain that prevented me from even doing simple activities, such as walking.

I had just lost my mother and witnessed the decline of my father. Both had struggled with poor food and a lack of exercise in their last years. The death of my mother has struck me in deeply; It served as my wake-up call. I realized that I not only had to take action to improve my own health, but also wanted to help other older adults.

Fed by a strong passion for discovering the answers that could benefit both myself and others, I invested in my education and I became a certified group fitness and pilates instructor, a senior fitness specialist and a nutrition coach.

After I retired from a 35-year career in the business world, I launched my own health coach company. I successfully lost 30 pounds, won strength and am full of energy. I again enjoy the activities that I love, such as taking 3-Mile walks, teaching pilates and traveling. In my coaching practice I help other women with the right food, the importance of movement and guides them to an exciting path to health, well -being and happiness.

Which AFPA certification did you earn and why did you choose that certification program?

I have obtained my Pilates certification from AFPA. In addition to my group fitness certification, I chose to specialize in Pilates because I believe it is a very advantageous practice for the women I give that are older than 50.

I am the founder and CEO of Embrace Wellness with Terri. I use my certifications to give fitness lessons in an active adult community, in addition to my health coaching.

What are your favorite parts of running your company or placing your certification to use?

What I absolutely like to run my own company is the freedom to be my own boss and to put my schedule! While starting a company with its challenges, the time and dedication have really paid off. Working with incredible women and witnessing their transformations brings me enormous joy and fulfillment every day! I would not have come that far or have won confidence without the certifications.

How did it be certified with AFPA influenced your life?

The impact has been really remarkable! It is incredibly worthwhile to support women in shaping their future with confidence and goal. I am really enthusiastic about the positive change that we create together!

Do you have success stories that you would like to share?

I have a few success stories that I would like to share.

I work with a customer and she has been doing Pilates with me for about three months. At the start of Pilates she spoke about how she didn’t feel strong. But now that she played with me and worked with me on food, she recently told me that her mother had taken a picture of her. She looked at her arms and said, “Wow, I can’t believe my arms really look!” I loved to hear that story.

Another woman I worked with – she followed my Pilates class every day and I also work with her on food – lost around 18 pounds. She said how she can now fit into her jeans that she probably couldn’t put on for about 10 years. I was very excited to hear her.

These are just a few incredible women who make a number of remarkable changes by following the right food and fitness – and of course by following my Pilates class.

What advice would you give others considering being certified via AFPA?

The advice that I would give everyone to try to try to be certified with AFPA – or any certification when it comes to health and fitness – is: do not hesitate.

I was in the business world for 35 years and I never thought I would be where I am today. I started with myself – losing 30 pounds, becoming strong, full of energy – and then working with all these other individuals.

It is just so worthwhile and I would probably not have had the confidence to do this without my certification. Do not hesitate; Do something good for yourself, and then you might pay that in advance.
