Tottenham Hotspur’s Damola Ajayi is likely to be loaned out again, with AFC Wimbledon and Bromley monitoring his situation. reports Tom Barclay.

Both AFC Wimbledon and Bromley are reaching crucial stages of their respective seasons. The Dons sit 12th in League One and are looking to cement their status in the division, while the Ravens have meanwhile built an unexpected title charge in League Two, putting them top of the pile in the new year.

We’re approaching the first 48 hours of the window and neither team has entered the market yet, suggesting they are assessing their options before making a move.

The south London sides will be hoping a strong January on and off the pitch will see them reunited in the third tier. Now, Tom Barclay has said the two sides are vying to sign Spurs star Damola Ajayi.

With Ajayi’s playing time limited at Doncaster Rovers, Tottenham Hotspur recalled the 20-year-old on Thursday after making just one league start since his arrival. He has played regularly off the bench and in cup competitions, but his parent club is unhappy with the number of opportunities Grant McCann is giving him.

Who will benefit more from Damola Ajayi?

Ajayi will be a welcome addition to any side, but an opportunity at AFC Wimbledon or Bromley could help further his progress after a stagnant six months.

The versatile frontman can be deployed on his favored right side and through the middle, but also played as a midfielder during his youth career. With his speed and aggression, the Englishman also scored in Spurs’ winning season in the UEFA Europa League, in a 3-0 win over Elfsborg.

Johnnie Jackson has frequently rotated between a front two and a front three this season, and Ajayi’s versatility allows him to compete for places in either formation. The Dons also lack energy in the final third at times, so he would be a useful addition to help solve their goalscoring problems.

On the other hand, Bromley has enjoyed another clinical campaign. Andy Woodman has the league’s second highest goalscorer at his disposal in Michael Cheek, and the Ravens have scored 49 goals in all competitions so far.

Nevertheless, Ajayi would be a quality signing in League Two to help them stay at the top of the league.

Damola Ajayi should be one of AFC Wimbledon’s many targets

It’s no secret that the Dons have one of the smallest budgets in League One, and while twelfth place is a respectable position, they need some extra quality to completely avoid the possibility of a relegation battle.

While loans and free agents may be the only financial options, the midfield is one area that needs work ahead of the rest of the season.

Johnnie Jackson’s side are back in action on Sunday, January 4, when they travel to Wycombe in League One.
