Bangladesh defeated India 1-0 to secure their first AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifiers Final Round Group C win at the National Stadium Dhaka on Tuesday.
With both sides already eliminated, the result took Bangladesh to five points, while India anchored the table at two.
Bangladesh found their footing first after a messy opening. A counter-attack in the 11th minute found Shekh Morsalin after a pass from Rakib Hossain, with the striker slotting the ball home from close range before defender Macarton Nickson and keeper Gurpreet Singh could respond.
The hosts kept the pressure on but their front line failed to get their play together, with midfielder Hamza Choudhury doing better at the back as he prevented Lallianzuala Chhangte’s goal attempt from reaching the target after half an hour.
Hamza’s 25-yard volley that flew past the left post capped a first half dominated by Bangladesh but regularly punctuated by stoppages.
India took control after the break, Rahul Bheke’s header and Mahesh Singh’s strike from the edge of the box both going just wide within the space of five minutes.
However, as with Bangladesh in the closing stages of the first half, India’s attacking line-up failed to deliver, with substitute Mohammed Sanan’s pace and positioning falling short in front of goal.
Bangladesh will end their campaign against already qualified Singapore, while India will take on Hong Kong and China with both matches on March 31.
