AEW Full Gear 2025 would be a throwaway show, but it will be newsworthy if two new champions are crowned. There are several big favorites on this card, including FTR (-1500) and Hangman Adam Page (-5000). AEW Dynamite has suffered under the Big Data era, drawing fewer than 500,000 viewers in four of the last five weeks. The only exception was last week’s Blood and Guts special, which drew 600,000 viewers for the TV PPV before AEW dropped below 500,000 with 491,000 viewers for the November 19 Dynamite.
Ricochet lost a one-sided match to Bobby Lashley on Dynamite, suggesting he is on the verge of winning his first AEW Championship two years after signing. This means that AEW’s first National Champion will be a wrestler who has lost several times on free TV, as modern professional wrestling has been saddled with the curse of 50/50 bookings.
The only match where Mercedes has suffered a pinfall loss in AEW was when she competed against Toni Storm in the AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear Texas. Now Mercedes 13 Belts, the history-making TBS champion, will challenge for the AEW Women’s World Title against Kris Statlander for the second time. Mone is an underdog, which could contribute to a long-term story where Mercedes could win every title except the AEW Women’s World Championship, which is widely considered AEW’s best women’s title. Executioner Adam Page and Samoa Joe had one amazing angle to begin their rematch storyline. But no one in the tristate area believes for a second that Samoa Joe has a chance to dethrone Hangman.
Between Nielsen’s poor Big Data ratings and WBD’s impending sale, AEW’s future as a television product is as murky as it’s ever been. AEW almost never misses pay-per-view in terms of quality, and despite another strong card on paper, nothing seems overly consistent about this show. By the end of the night there will be two new champions in a promotion with too many champions, and the main event is statistically one of the most predictable outcomes of 2025. I expect AEW Full Gear to draw less than the typical AEW pay-per-views with less than 100,000 buys.
