Adrian Lee clashes with Shozo Isojima at ONE Fight Night 40 on February 13. The young captain of the old martial arts family has sharpened his mental game after his first professional MMA loss in his latest outing to Tye Ruotolo last September, with Lee calm and completely locked in.
When asked if Angela and Christian had learned lessons about losing siblings from their own MMA careers or if his recent growth came from his own personally retained lessons, Lee said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“It’s a bit of both. Luckily I had my brother.” [Christian Lee] who is the champion of two divisions? He has truly experienced it all, the highs, the lows. He was able to help me through it a bit. But honestly, a big part of it was me going through that experience. Learning to deal with it and get past it.”
“Because at the end of the day, it’s a fight. Anything can happen in a fight. Yeah, that just wasn’t my night that night. But I fully intend to make the most of that fight and make sure this never happens again.”
When giving his opinion on the qualities of his upcoming opponent, Lee said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“I think Shozo Isojima is a well-rounded fighter. He’s 1-1 in ONE Championship right now, but he’s 6-1. So he has a lot of experience and I think our skill sets mesh well. I think it’s going to be a great fight and it’s going to be a quick fight… I always grew up as a finisher.”
“In all my fights, my plan is to finish the fight as quickly as possible, as technically as possible, and always in the first round. The same goes for this fight. I plan to finish in the first round, whether it’s a KO, TKO or a submission.”
Adrian Lee on “the mentality ingrained in all his champion brothers and sisters
When asking Adrian Lee what goes into the Lee methodology of having highly refined technical pieces in the context of an exciting, high-octane style, Lee joked [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Growing up, that was just the mentality that was ingrained in all of us. As we grew up and became fighters, I think it’s just because it’s actually the safest route. You can never rely on leaving it up to the judges. You never know what can happen. The best way to eliminate that option is to just end the fight.”
