Selling property can be an emotional step, but it’s about more than just saying goodbye to a home of 20 years for a pair of Adelaide sellers.

John and David put their Northfield villa at 9 York St up for sale in the hope that they could move to Ballarat to help a dear friend in need.

Now they can make the idea a reality after their three-bedroom home, which they have lived in for 20 years, sold under the hammer this weekend for $785,500.

“My best friend has some health issues so we had a discussion in March where we decided we would all buy a property where we could live together,” John said.

“David is originally from Ballarat, so we are moving back to Ballarat and living out the rest of our final years caring for my best friend.

“We are going to try to buy a house where we can live together but independently.

“So we can live our own lives but be there to take care of him when he needs it.

“We got more than we hoped for our spot, and my best friend got more than he hoped for his spot, so it will definitely make the transition a lot easier.”

The house has all three bedrooms, a bathroom and a laundry room on one side of the long and narrow house, as well as an open kitchen and dining room on the other side.

A large living room is located at the rear of the house and opens onto a covered outdoor entertainment area.

There is also a courtyard in the backyard, behind the one car garage.

John said they updated the home, which property records show was built in 2005, prior to the sale with the help of sales agent Adam Humzy of Ray White Prospect.

“He always contacted us and helped us organize any renovations we needed to do,” he said.

According to property records, the property last sold in July 2005 for $285,000.
