Muhammad Humair Karim, secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, and Emma Fan, country director of the Asian Development Bank, signed documents during an agreement ceremony.
The agreements include the $330 million Second Power Transmission Strengthening Project and the $400 million Accelerating State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) Transformation Program, according to a statement from the Department of Economic Affairs.
Karim expressed his appreciation for ADB’s role as a trusted development partner and its continued support for Pakistan in advancing critical infrastructure and governance reforms.
He emphasized that the transmission project will enable reliable evacuation of 2,300 MW from upcoming hydropower projects, alleviate overload on existing transmission lines and increase resilience under unforeseen circumstances.
He added that the SOE Transformation Program will strengthen compliance with the SOE Act, 2023 and SOE Policy 2023, in addition to improving operational efficiency, particularly targeting the National Highway Authority (NHA).
