Peaty took a break of swimming after winning silver in the 100m breaststroke at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
He previously took a long -term break of the sport in 2023 to give priority to his mental health after experiencing a “big, burn -out”.
Although “The Athlete in My Head” lacks that he does not compete in the current world championships in Singapore, Peaty has a clear plan for his return to competition and trains “much smarter” like an older athlete.
“I called in January or February, when I started training again, that these worlds would not be for me because it would be too rushed,” said Peaty.
“I want to go to the [2026] Commonwealth games. I want to be with the Europeans next year. I will never take my place for granted – only because I have a world record, does not mean that I will be there, it is ridiculous. I have to earn those places, which fascinates me.
“I did some racing preparation before I came here to see where I am and we are in a good place for October world cups in America and Canada.”
During his training he added: “If you had told me 10 years ago, I would do a Pilates session this morning, I would have said ‘no way’.
“I look back on certain camps and I was haunting songs, I needed the output, the validation. But I didn’t swim the smartest in my head in terms of recovery, mental health and the warning signals of what burnout looks like.
“[Now] It is what I decide. This block [in Los Angeles]I know it’s a vacation, so I’m just going to see how I feel. When I go back to England, I get up for the Commonwealth games – 4 km sessions, 4.5 km – and that gives me the best results. “
