Do not expect Aaron Pico to return to the Octagon in 2025.
Pico made his UFC debut against Lerone Murphy in the United Center in Chicago. The UFC 319 Co-Main event was a crucial fight in the featherweight division. Pico was eliminated on spectacular fashion by a rotating elbow in the opening frame.
The knockout was bad enough that the manager of Pico, Ali Abdelaziz, puts his hunter on the sidelines for the rest of 2025. He explained why during an appearance on “Submission Radio” (Via Inappropriate).
“I have rules, man,” said Abdelaziz. “When boys are eliminated like that, I will not book him for at least six months. After six months he can fight. But (he has to start) at least six months. It is not healthy for a hunter to go out like this and just try to come back early.
“We see it happening again and again with many boys, and it doesn’t work like (it did for Alexander Volkanovski). It doesn’t work well for them when the boys come back so early. They say that health is the most important thing, and he will come back. I am not worried about it, frankly. He is good. His health is good.”
Pico came in the UFC with some buzz, since he has long been very recommended dating from his days with Bellator MMA. Pico’s MMA debut ended in a shocking loss of 24 seconds entry to Zach Freeman. He then received mixed results and was with a record of 4-3 before compiling a six-fighter-winning series.
Pico had not delayed a loss for Jeremy Kennedy as a result of a shoulder injury, because he was able to secure a three-fighter-winning series prior to the recent knockout defeat against Murphy. Time will tell how quickly Pico can return to the profit column.
