Aaron Boone is open to giving Anthony Volpe a breathing break while his Yankees -Spiral continues

Before the latest no-show from the Yankees to the Red Sox, manager Aaron Boone said that he thought he was a breath break now that he has an option at ShortStop in Handels-Dode takeover José Caballero.

“Especially with Caballero I recently gave him one,” said Boone. “They can be here in the game, but I wasn’t going to do it with a Lefty today.”

Volpe went outside and showed Boone that he might have needed one.

He committed his 17th error of the season in the ninth inning of the ugly 12-1 loss of the Yankees, along with another day on the record without a hit.

It also included that he deposited a questionable sacrificial thrust in the fourth inning with one out and the Yankees with three points behind.

Boone came to Volpe’s defense, well, defense.

In the Red Sox Seven-Run Ninth, Volpe has a throw on a David Hamilton grounder Air-mail.

He is a mistake of a career high, after he committed 17 as Rookie in 2023.

“Volpe made a mistake, it was his first in a few weeks,” the manager said. “He played very well there, made a bad throw.”

Volpe committed a mental error on Friday evening.

With Jarren Duran on second base and one in a 1-0 match in the ninth inning, Ceddanne Rafaela hit a grounder to Volpe and instead of having the routine throw, Volpe threw Duran to Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Duran was safe and Rafaela defeated the throw from Chisholm to the first.

Afterwards Boone said that it was “clearly not the right game”, but also called it a “intoxicating game”.

It is more difficult to defend full offensive because he has hit a dry period.

It is in a drought of 1-from-28 and hits .169 in the month of August.

His ops of the season come from .675 and his stroke average has fallen to .208.

Boone kept Volpe on Saturday in the line -up because he wanted his right bat against the Lefty, Red Sox Ace Garrett Crochet.

Nevertheless, Volpe put down a sacrificial battle in the fourth, a sign of his reduced trust.

The short stop of the Yankees struggles and hears more frequent anger.

Perhaps a break, as Boone suggested that he considered, could help.
