Aad Kwakkelstein has joined the Table Tennis England team as a coach developer.

AAD will work together with Steve Brunskill in a crucial role that improves and promotes coaching standards and to support the development of coaches in their environment.

His work will focus on guiding, training and supporting coaches to ensure that coaching practices are in accordance with the strategic objectives of Table Tennis England and the Coach Excellence Framework.

Aad, who earned his MSC in 2020 in Elite Coaching Practice, is a very experienced table tennis coach. He has the highest coaching qualification in England and in the Netherlands, where he has coached several national champions.

His influence extends beyond the competition, because he has also coached players who have since become coaches.

He previously served as a national coach in the Netherlands and as a regional coach of Etta for players with a disability, before taking on his current coaching role at Britannia TTC in Ipswich.

A coach of level 4, he also held head coach positions at both Batts in Harlow and Fusion in London. His dissertation, entitled Players’ practical communities as a learning tool in table tennis reflects its academic thoroughness and passion for innovative coaching methods.

Aad said: “I am very happy to apply my academic research into the practical communities to the practical development of coaches. It is an incredibly powerful concept that can help us build a more cooperation and informed coaching community, ultimately the standard of table tennis across the board.

“I look forward to using my experience to help coaches thrive in their clubs using an informed, collaborative approach.”

Evie Collier from Table Tennis England’s coach Learning & Development manager said: “I am very enthusiastic for AAD to join our team – he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will strengthen our support for coaches as we continue with our implementation of the coaching strategy.

“We have a number of really exciting programs that are completed, and having AAD on board will help us continue to push it forward while we roll out closer to rolling out the new coaching qualifications.”
