Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has done that said Yisa Alao suffered a hamstring problem this weekend.

Alao, 17, is tipped for a bright future in the game and the Owls could well be in contention to keep hold of him amid the attention from elsewhere. The Daily mail reported in December that top giants Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in luring him away from South Yorkshire for a fee of around £450,000.

In this latest injury update on the prospect, Pedersen has said, according to a report from The star: “We took him out today because he had a problem with his hamstring. To play a match for him at this level, it means that we have to maximize every action for him. And that’s why, and already in the break we talked to him, he has a challenge, so we couldn’t let him play any longer. I would like to give him 90 minutes, but that wasn’t possible.”

Sheffield Wednesday will have to assess Alao in the coming days. SWFC hopes that his injury is not too serious and that he can return as soon as possible.

The teen may get some more playing time in the coming weeks and months. The Owls have a vacancy to fill at left back, with Harry Amass on the programme go back to Manchester United after his impressive loan spell.

Alao has been on the books of Sheffield Wednesday for his entire career to date. He has risen through the academy ranks of the Championship side.

The Doncaster native has been a regular for the Owls at various youth levels over the years. He made his first-team debut in a Carabao Cup away match against Bolton Wanderers in August last year and has since made three further appearances under Pedersen’s management.

What next for Sheffield Wednesday and Yisa Alao?

Sheffield Wednesday will monitor Alao to determine the extent of the issue he picked up against Brentford. Everyone involved with SWFC will keep their fingers crossed that things won’t turn out too bad.

The Owls will want to retain the prospect’s services for as long as possible amid links with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool. It would be a blow to lose him now, especially at such a young age, but a move to the highest level could be too good for him to turn down.

Pedersen’s men are still bottom of the second tier and find themselves in the drop zone along with Oxford United and Norwich City after 25 games. They are 32 points from safety behind Portsmouth in 21st and are back in action this weekend against Pompey as they hunt for their second league win of the campaign.
