Dear fellow developers and data scientists,
If everyone who reads this only gave the price of a coffee, I could fully concentrate on the open source work that our community serves. But not everyone can or will contribute, and that’s okay.
Why I write this
In recent years I have committed myself to making and maintaining open source tools that thousands of developers use daily. My R -packages – including CPP11armadillo, Capybara, Gravity, TabulapDF, Pointblank and others – have found their way to workflows in space travel, retail, pharmaceutical products and countless other industries. Every Github problem receives a response. Every e -mail is answered. This is not just code for me; It is a dedication to the community that has given me so much.
The reality behind the code
I am a doctoral student from the developing countries and strive for my research in a country where the costs of living are much greater than what I knew at home. Although I have always believed to keep my work open and accessible to everyone, I am at an intersection.
My exhibition payments have been delayed for almost three months. In the meantime, rent is not waiting and not the need for food. I have sold guitar pedals that I design to get a vintage tone in the XXI Century inspired by Queen and Dr. Sir Brian May, who was initially a hobby to build pedals for friends who has become a small source of income (better than nothing). You can find my pedals here: https://www.instagram.com/maplebooster/.
A cautious request
I have always believed that open source must remain open, and I still do that. Before I am considering commercializing my software or placing content behind Paywalls, I contact the community that made this work meaningful.
If my packages have saved you time, have solved a problem or have just made your day a little easier, you can support this work with a small contribution. Do not see it as charity, but as an investment in the continuous development and maintenance of tools you trust.
Support my work to buy a coffee for me
Ahead
Despite these challenges, I don’t slide. This week I am launching my YouTube channel again to share more knowledge with the community -adding teaching to an already complete promotional workload, because, well, necessity is a powerful motivator.
Your support – through donations, sharing this message or just keep using and giving feedback about my packages – means more than you know. It is what keeps me going during late nights debugging, writing documentation and ensuring that these tools remain freely available to everyone they need.
A comment of gratitude
To those who have already supported my work through code contributions, bug reports or friendly words: thanks. You remind me why I chose this path. Support for those who are considering: know that every contribution, no matter how small, makes the continuation of this work possible directly.
The open source ecosystem thrives on mutual support. Today I ask for yours.
With appreciation and hope,
Pacha
PS If you cannot contribute financially, sharing this message with others who may benefit from my work would be incredibly useful. The Open Source Community has always been more about more than just code – it is about supporting each other.
