The boy slipped and became briefly stuck between a cruise ship called Carnival Sunrise, owned by Carnival Cruise Line, and the pier at Carnival’s Celebration Key in the Bahamas.
Dramatic footage shows the moment a panicked mother jumped from a dock to save her four-year-old daughter, who slipped and fell into the water.
The boy became trapped between the Carnival Sunrise cruise ship and the dock at Carnival’s Celebration Key in the Bahamas. Crew members rushed to help the desperate mother, lowering ladders and life jackets into the water during the rescue operation on December 21.
The girl was pulled to safety and cradled in the arms of a nearby woman before crew members pulled the brave mother from the water. The crowd gathered on the pier during the drama cheered and applauded after both the child and mother were pulled from the water.
Carnival Cruise Line, which operates the Carnival Sunrise, said both the girl and the parent are now “doing well.” A spokesperson for the company, which operates a fleet of 29 vessels and is based in Florida, said: “A four-year-old girl momentarily walked away from her mother and fell into the water.
‘Her mother immediately jumped after her. Our ship and security team quickly got them both to safety and our medical team evaluated them. They’re doing well.’

Cruise ships from Carnival and other companies regularly dock in the Bahamas. A witness who saw the tragedy unfold from the balcony of her adjacent ship said: “Apparently people fell between the dock and the Carnival Sunrise. They were brought to safety. A mother jumped after her baby, brave woman. A very frightening situation, but they were quickly rescued.”
The family even reached out to the creator, adding in the comments, “I just received a message from the mother, the woman who jumped after her child. She said they are okay, traumatized, but okay. I’m so glad this all turned out well and everyone got to safety. She was a brave woman, but any mother would do the same.”
Another user, who is apparently the heroic mother, responded on social media: “Thank you all for your prayers and words of encouragement. My children and I have a long road ahead of us to heal from this traumatic situation.”
The tragedy came days after passengers had to be evacuated from a cruise ship after it ran aground on its first voyage since a woman died after being abandoned on an island. The Coral Adventurer struck a reef off the coast of Papua New Guinea on Saturday with 80 passengers and 43 crew on board. The Australian Maritime Authority confirmed the ship had run aground and no distress call had been sent.
