NFL Training Camp is an exciting time for many fans in the competition.

It is often the first chance for the public to look first and foremost at the new schedules of their favorite teams, and the training camp is another milestone that we can drop off our lists before the start of the regular season.

The Minnesota Vikings had their Rookies report on Sunday to the camp and then, Veterans reported to the camp on Tuesday. The Vikings held a few exercises together on Wednesday, and with that practice a large Vikings mystery was solved.

All the season out of season is one of the biggest questions about the Minnesota Vikings or Josh Metellus or not. Subsequently, some wondered if there would be a holdout or hold-in if Metellus would not receive a new contract from the team.

Well, that question seems to have been answered from Wednesday. According to Judd ZoGad of Skor North, Metellus was present and he participated in exercises.

“There was no Josh Metellus-in-in on day 1 of Vikings Camp. He participated in all the exercises. He was used as the starting security in the base opposite Harrison Smith and Theo Jackson replaced him when Metellus went around,” ZoGad Posted on X.

Vikings Mystery

Metellus has been an important part of the defense of Minnesota in recent years, namely because of its versatility. In one Snap he could be set up in secondary as a traditional safety, and on the next he could stand in line for the big boys in the trenches as a de facto defending tackle.

But now the Vikings Metellus may need more than ever. Camryn Bynum left the team in a free desk and signed a four -year contract with the Indianapolis Colts instead of staying in Minnesota. That left a void in safety, which means that Metellus may have to play a little more traditional role this season to fill the gap.

Of course Minnesota also has Theo Jackson in the area, who has made a similar journey as a metellus to get to this point in his NFL career. Jackson, 26, was a sixth round pick in 2022 by the Tennessee Titans (Metellus was selected in the sixth round of the 2020 design by the Vikings).

Jackson was subsequently abandoned by Tennessee and picked up by Minnesota, who has since been a special ASAS teams. Metellus also started his career as a special leader and played 200+ special teams in four of his first five seasons.

Even if the Vikings do not need a metellus to change role, he will be a very essential piece to bring Jackson to the defense to ensure that he knows his role, downwards, backwards and forward.

And it seems that safety is dedicated to make that happen. View this quote from Metellus, written in an article from a training camp notes by Will Ragatz van Si:

“I’m not worried about what is going on on that side,” said Metellus. “I just do my bit, I am here for the team, try to be a leader, a captain, and I can’t do that on the sidelines. A large part of it is the man I am in this building, is a man who runs the way in the front, so it doesn’t make sense for me not to do it.”

Metellus has always been a leader in the dressing room of Minnesota, and even while he entered a contract year in 2025, he seems to put the players around him. If that is no reason to immediately give him a contract extension, I don’t know what it is.
