A Florida man crashes his plane into a woman’s car as she drives down the highway – Jalopnik

Have you seen a ‘Final Destination’? movie lately? Well, this poor woman in Florida seems to live in one. A new video from the only state where this kind of thing appears to happen shows the intense moment a plane crashes from above into a car as the woman drives along a busy Florida highway.

From the video taken with a dashcam we can see the multi-engine aircraft – a Beechcraft 55 Baron, according Flight conscious – crashes into a 2023 Toyota Camry in the southbound lane of I-95 in Cocoa, Florida, as it attempted an emergency landing after reporting engine problems, according to WESH 2. There were apparently two people on board the plane and a woman in the deformed Camry. She was taken to a nearby hospital and somehow only suffered minor injuries. The 27-year-old man flying the plane and his 27-year-old passenger were not injured.

A wild scene

The dashcam video, shot by Jim Coffey and his son Peter, shows a wild story. The eldest Coffey tells Spectrum News 13 that they “saw this plane fall out of the sky”, and that they themselves were just seconds away from being hit by the stricken plane. Instead, it missed them clearly and hit the Camry. First it landed on the right side of the car’s roof. Then it seemed to bounce up a bit and slide down the front of the car before spinning around on the roadway and coming to a stop. Again, it’s a miracle no one was injured more seriously.

This is what the father-son duo said Spectrum news:

“I noticed it was there because there was a plane there, I thought, ‘Hopefully it lands to the side,’” Peter Coffey said. “I thought it might aim around without hitting the car, but bam, the steering wheel just hit the back of the car.”

“Luckily the car didn’t roll, it got a little crushed and went sideways,” his father said.

The aircraft originally departed Merritt Island for an instructional flight before losing power in both engines. I guess the pilot felt the best place to land was the highway, which was probably a safe bet. Unfortunately for the 57-year-old Camry driver, fate was not on her side. Now the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

We have reached out to the Florida Highway Patrol for more information about the crash, and we will update this story when and if we receive a response.
