With the NHL season 2025–26 on the horizon, this means that fantasy hockey also starts. The Calgary Flames were not exactly a gold mine of fantasy value last season and ended 29th in the NHL in goals with only two players who post more than 60 points. The Flames hope that this year is different, with several young players who want to make big leaps.
Here are the fantasy outlook for the Flames in 2025–26, from MVP to potential bust.
MVP – Dustin Wolf
Nhl.com Rank: goalie (14), General (103)
If a flame becomes a must-own player in Fantasy next year, it’s Wolf. The 24-year-old is fresh from a great Rookie season and will get an even heavier workload in 2025-26. Last season Wolf finished the year in 11th place in the NHL for victories despite playing in just 53 games. He is also in 11th place for savings percentage and 16th for GAA. In other words, he was already one of the best goalkeepers in Fantasy last year, and he should only be better in 2025–26.
In addition to an injury or a second slump, Wolf must stand in line at least 60 starts in 2025-26. If he can replicate last season’s performance, he will close to reaching the top five goalkeeper status in fantasy. No other player on the Flames is somewhere near the top five in their position in fantasy.
Sleeper – Matthew Coronato
NHL.com Rank: Forward (110), General (161)
The ranking list of Matt Coronato on NHL.com suggests a hugely sleek potential. The 22-year-old had a nice Rookie season with 24 goals and 47 points, but he is on the bottom of the top 200 players of NHL.com. If there is someone in the flames who could take a huge step this year, it is Coronato.
For the context, the Rookie finished 125th last season among attackers for points and 91st for goals. Nevertheless, NHL.com still has the 110th best attacker in Fantasy, behind people like Michael Misa, Kiefer Sherwood, Frank Vatrano and Morgan Geekie. That just seems wrong. Coronato was a top 15-pick in the design of 2022 for a reason and has legitimate 30 goal, 60-point potential, if not anymore. I would like to bring him at the end of my depth in the hope of an outbreak.
Diep Sleeper – Connor Zary
NHL.com Rank: Forward (Unlanked), General (Non -Strand)
Connor Zary is flying completely under the radar in fantasy this year. In fact, he is not even drafted, and understandable. After an injuries with 27-point season, Zary’s concept value does not jump exactly off the page. For that reason I think he has a huge sleeper upside down. It is easy to forget that when healthy, Zary is one of the more dynamic players in the line -up of the Flames.
After placing back-to-back seasons, just about 0.5 points per match, Zary can stand in line for a breakout year if he can stay in the line-up and earn a top-six role. He is definitely worth a flyer, because I think he has a very real potential of 60 points. You will not find many players with Zary’s benefit in the final round of the design, or on the exemption wire.
Buste – Nazem Kadri
Nhl.com Rank: Forward (62), General (88)
To be honest, it’s hard to find a bust choice for Calgary because they don’t have anyone in their selection that is so high in fantasy concepts. They only have two players in the top 100 of NHL.com in Nazem Kadri at 88 and Mackenzie Weegar at 80. For me, Kadri has a much higher bus potential, so he is the choice here.
Despite a career-best 35-speed season in 2024–25, I think there is a real chance that Kadri will see a big step in 2025–26. First, he will be 35 by the time that the season starts. Secondly, Kadri shot 12.5%last year, his highest total since the 2019-2020 season. For the context, he was his first two seasons in Calgary a shooter of 9.75%. Without reinforcements that come to Calgary, I think Kadri can be difficult to match last season’s output.
I feel much more comfortable about players such as Jordan Kyrou, Dylan Strome and Travis Konecny, who are currently under Kadri, who is currently above Kadri. There are just too many questions about Kadri and the flames this year.
