Do you want a real tip to brighten up the somewhat gloomy month of November? Book a 24-hour overnight stay at another location, preferably Copenhagen. Far enough to be called abroad and close enough not to feel like it’s the biggest project in the world. I book return tickets Stockholm – Copenhagen for 24 hours in the neighboring country. Good decision, you can read why in this post.

The main purpose of the trip was to work with my podcast colleague Lisa/Let’s explore record a new episode of Att resa-podden with Copenhagen resident Klara Halkjaear aka CopenhagenKlara (follow-up tips!) as an expert guest. Of course we also use some of the many tips that Klara so generously offers! In other words, I cannot take credit for any of the tips below, but only pass on what Klara suggests during our stay on site in Denmark’s capital.

A day in Copenhagen and tips for a successful mini holiday on the other side of the Sound
#1. Accommodation at Hotel Bella Grande
“We would like to live near the train station in Copenhagen!”we say. And suddenly Klara comes up with three suitable alternatives in the form of 1) Hotel Bella Grande 2) Bella Grande’s sister hotel Coco Hotel and finally 3) Great Johanna.

After scanning photos, reviews and prices, the choice ultimately fell on Hotel Bella Grande, which is about a 10-minute walk from the train station. We already live here for approx. 1800 SEK/night (the price applies to 2 people). A hotel breakfast is not included in the price – we choose to have the first meal of the day in a nearby cafe.

#2. Drinks at Bibendum Bistro & Wine Bar
After we’ve checked in and finished podding, we’ll hit the streets of Copenhagen to quench our thirst in Bibendum…

…a cozy place where you can have a snack and a drink. We choose the latter and sit down together for a glass to discuss the topics of the evening. My friends go crazy over the wine list, I personally opt for a fresh non-alcoholic drink with grapefruit and citrus. This place is one of countless wine bars in Copenhagen, you just have to choose!
Address: Nansensgade 45, 1366 Copenhagen
#3. Dinner at Ma Cuisine
We move on to the Copenhagen evening…

…and enters the warmth of Ma Cuisine, a French restaurant where Klara has reserved a table for three.

Very good choice, you know! The atmosphere is cheerful, but low enough that we can hear each other on the other side of the table. Here’s one “set menu” what applies, what is common in Copenhagen. Flexible concept where each person receives the following for an affordable DKK 350/person:
- four small dishes (soup, salad, pate and slices)
- a main course (three different choices: fish, meat or vegetarian)
- dessert in the form of lemon meringue pie
We also order extra bread for 15 DDK/person.

Satisfied and satisfied, we say thank you and go back to the hotel after a very nice day in a very nice city.
#4. Breakfast at the Lido
Good morning Copenhagen, it’s time for breakfast!

Because I still feel quite full from yesterday’s balun dinner, I bring a pot of tea and a classic BOS= sandwich with cheese. The price tag then? 50 DKK for a pot of tea and the same amount for a sourdough roll results in a final bill of 150 SEK. It’s very cheap not.

Klara and Lisa come up with an exciting breakfast variant shoemakerwhich can almost be described as a happy medium between cake and pie. My sister used to bake peach cobbler with pickled peaches when I was little and I couldn’t really decide whether I liked this type of dessert or not. This breakfast version is not so sweet and actually very tasty, so tasty that I try to prepare a similar version at home that same weekend.

#5. Sauna and bath on Winter Island (and more sauna tips in Copenhagen)
With breakfast on our stomachs we walk away towards Kalvebod Brygge and its wooden piers along the (Öre) Sound. Klara booked us here at…

…an hour of sauna! Yes, even the Danes are taking advantage and riding the sauna wave of the Finns. On the way down we see various sauna initiatives Winter Island, a floating sauna facility where we will spend our morning.

We pay DKK 150 for an hour of sauna, if you want to borrow a towel it costs DKK 80 extra. Changing rooms and outdoor showers are available, as well as a small restaurant where you can replenish your energy supply with hot chocolate and sandwiches, for example.

Swimming then? Good. You don’t really understand that here, but almost everyone does it anyway. (There are therefore life-saving ladders on site that are “borrowed” for swimming ladders).
Address: Kalvebod Brygge 9, 1560 Copenhagen V
If you want to swim in a completely legal way, go to Kalvebod Bølge Badezone…

…which is located right next to Kalvebod Brygge.

At Kalvebod Bølge Badezone there is also a cute little floating sauna that can be booked. More sauna tips in the area? Yes, they definitely exist.

If you choose to stay at the Marriott, you will find a beautiful vaulted sauna just outside the hotel entrance. The initiative is called Copenhagen Marriott Hotel and the sauna in question was installed between October 2025 and February 2026. Information about booking can be found via this link.
There seems to be no end to the sauna hype in Kalvebod!
#6. Lunch at Dina Bar Café
Time flies when you’re having a good time, and now we’re going to have lunch before leaving back to Stockholm.

Klara’s choice falls on Dina, a restaurant near Rådhustorget. The classics are served here the butter bread, where you should choose one with plaice to enjoy authentic Danish. If you want to spend even more, you can choose shrimp as an option. Personally, I invest in a goat cheese salad and have to pay a little over 200 SEK for it.
