‘A dagger in the heart’ – The Fulham star has not taken the defeat against Newcastle United very well

Alex Iwobi was on the losing side as the final score showed Newcastle 2 Fulham 1.

Fulham made it a game halfway through the match.

However, Newcastle United started the match as the better team AND ended the match as such.

Alex Iwobi described Bruno’s goal in the 90th minute as; “A last-minute winner is a dagger in the heart…”

The Fulham star also states; “We were able to create chances against a great Newcastle team.”

Both things are true, but the fact is that United generally deserved the win, even if the visitors made them fight for it all the time.

Alex Iwobi did not cope well with the defeat against Newcastle United:

“We are very disappointed.

“We knew it would be a tough match and a difficult situation, but if we don’t win, we can’t lose and keep the draw.

“Unfortunately, a last-minute winner is a dagger in the heart, but we have to pick ourselves up and start next week’s match.

“Going into the second half we had the bigger spark.

“Obviously there have been a lot of changes, there was a lot more dynamism down the flanks, so we could hurt them and create a few chances, but if we don’t take our chances, good teams like Newcastle can punish us.

“We were able to create chances against a great Newcastle side. We also limited their chances, even though we were punished by a few mistakes.”

“As long as we stay consistent, give 100 percent and stay focused for more than 90 minutes, I’m confident we can get the results we need.”

Alex Iwobi on how he became the first Nigerian player to make 300 Premier League appearances:

“It’s great.

“It is a great achievement to lead that, together with people like Shola Ameobi and even my uncle [Jay-Jay Okocha] that has participated in the Premier League.

“It’s an honor, but I’m not done yet.

“I will continue and hope the record stands.”
