Ipswich Town’s strength in attack depth is ‘a bit unfair’ say EFL expert Ali Maxwell.
Ipswich Town have a number of top quality attacking players in the likes of Jack Clarke and Jaden Philogene. ITFC is looking back at promotion to the Premier League from the Premier League Championship this season.
The Tractor Boys are currently in 7th place after their first 14 matches. They are just two points behind Hull City and Millwall in the play-offs.
Kieran McKenna’s team won 4-1 in Ipswich Town last time before the international break. Clarke and Ivan Azon scored against the Swans in South Wales, while former player Cameron Burgess scored two own goals.
Speaking on the Not The Top 20 Podcast on YouTubeMaxwell has profoundly expressed his assessment of their power: “Jack Clarke comes in, takes the ball, drives in from the left and finds the bottom corner from 20 yards. Fantastic goal. It’s a bit unfair that Ipswich have Clarke and (Jaden) Philogene. They’ve played 1,044 minutes between them this season, which is almost exactly 16 games, and they’ve scored 12 goals between them from the left side of the attack.”
Ipswich Town last over Jack Clarke
Ipswich Town signed Clarke in August 2024 after their move to the top flight. He is under contract with ITFC until mid-2029.
The attacker has now made 52 appearances in all competitions for the Tractor Boys and scored nine goals, six of which have come this season. Before his move to Suffolk he was a key player for Sunderland.
Clarke spent three and a half years at the Stadium of Light and was one of their most prized assets. He scored 27 goals in 94 games during his days with the Black Cats.
The York-born man rose through the youth ranks of Leeds United before Tottenham Hotspur picked him up as a youngster in 2019. Spurs then loaned him out to the likes of QPR and Stoke City in the second tier to help him gain some experience.

What next for Ipswich Town?
Ipswich Town are back in action on Saturday, November 22, with a home game against Wrexham. ITFC will be keen to build on their win over Swansea City and keep up the momentum as they look to reach the top six.
They then face back-to-back trips to Hull City and Oxford United to round out the remainder of November. The competitions will get underway quickly this winter during the festive period.
The Tractor Boys were relegated earlier this year and finished in the bottom three along with Leicester City and Southampton. It’s taken them a while to adapt to life in the Football League, but they seem to be finding their feet more.
As Maxwell said, they have serious quality with players like Clarke and Philogene. McKenna faces selection headaches every weekend as he tries to find the right balance with his starting XI.
