Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain said that his plan was “sure” to return to play in the training camp after his promising Rookie season was demolished due to a torn meniscus.
“At the moment I’m on pace,” said McCain on Tuesday when the 76ers and Flyers unveiled signage for the Xfinity Mobile Arena, formerly known as the Wells Fargo Center.
Jared McCain won NBA Rookie of the month before in November
Philadelphia selected McCain with the 16th Pick in the NBA design from 2024 from Duke. He on average 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 36 games with the Blue Devils.
McCain, 21, started a hot start to start his NBA career last season before he suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee during a match in December against the Indiana Pacers.
In 23 games (eight starts) of the 2024-25 season, he had an average of 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 25.7 minutes per match while shooting 46% and 38.3% from 3-point range.
Prior to his injury, McCain worked its way to the start rotation and earned NBA Rookie of the month before in November. He registered seasonal heights of 34 points and 10 assists in Cleveland on November 13.
McCain, however, joined the All-Star Trio of Sixers by Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George, among the most important players who were sidelined for large parts of the season due to injuries.
McCain hopes to be healthy for the season opener of 76ers
Maxey, Embiid and George played 14 games together, went 7-7 in those performances and accounted for only 11.2% of the total assets. As a result, coach Nick Nurse used a competition-high 55 different starting line-ups.
The 76ers ended 24-58, including a 5-31 piece to close the season. According to ESPNs, around 77% ($ 146 million) of their payroll is associated with Maxey, Embiid and George Bobby Marks.
Although there is no official timetable for McCain’s return, he still has time to make his way in the rotation during the opening evening. The 76ers play on October 2 and October 4 in the NBA Abu Dhabi matches for the preseason.
The Sixers open their season October 22 on the road against the Boston Celtics.
McCain hopes that he will be ready to play.
“I think it’s just a bit day after day,” said McCain. “I get on the field, do a lot of things, many live things, but I still have to talk to them about exactly when I am free for everything, but I will definitely get it.”
