Can you imagine the Philadelphia 76ers making a bona fide offer in hopes of trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo? Well, if you’re rooted in reality, you probably shouldn’t. But this may have become more than just a pipe dream.
Early in the offseason, market buzz surrounding the status of the Greek Freak is Milwaukee dominated the newsstands. Many people in league circles noticed some level of dissatisfaction from the two-time Most Valuable Player with the Bucks, especially considering the misfortune that befell them during the playoffs.
However, this muttering did not lead to anything more. Soon, as free agency officially started, it quickly became clear that Antetokounmpo would remain in the Cream City. But as can be surmised from what’s been reported lately, those previously contrived feelings about him growing tired of the only team he’s ever known may actually be real, if not menacing.
Reportedly, Giannis himself was already toying with the idea of skipping town. As bared by ESPN’s Shams Charaniathe superstar big man was interested in heading to New York this summer, but while the Knicks and Bucks discussed a potential blockbuster deal, the former never made a serious offer to land him.

The biggest takeaway from this is that Giannis is availablealthough teams should entice him to be interested in joining their respective ball clubs. Now Philly wasn’t on his rumored list of favorite landing spots when he was all the rage on the trade market, but you never know. Stranger things have happened in the league.
Packed with both win-now talent and young, buildable prospects, the 76ers have the requisite artillery to entice the Bucks into a blockbuster trade.
The question would be how great is Philly’s risk appetite. Given their current and nagging situation, the Bucks likely wouldn’t be interested in either Joel Embiid or Paul George, but someone like Tyrese Maxey could be worth their attention.
That will obviously be an undesirable proposition among the 76ers faithful. However, you could argue that letting go of Maxey, with Jared McCain and VJ Edgecombe already in the group, wouldn’t be as terrible as it sounds.
Of course, we’re just making scenarios here, but if the Philadelphia 76ers are suddenly craving a drastic facelift, pressing whatever buttons necessary to trade for Giannis is an option.
