There is a saying that wisdom deserves and by the time we reach our sixties, we have earned a lot of it. We have lived, learned, raised families, built careers and endured menopause. Yet one of the most common things I hear from women over 60 is: “I don’t know what to wear anymore.”
Not because we don’t care, but because we want to feel confident, comfortable and relevant without trying to look younger or follow outdated rules.
So today I’m sharing six things I wear over 60, and some of them might surprise you. Yes, clothes are important, but this list goes beyond just outfits.
It’s about what we wear on our bodies every day for comfort, support, protection and confidence. Things that help us feel good about ourselves.
No rules. No ‘age-related’ nonsense. Just real life choices that work beautifully for this stage of life.
Let’s dive in!
1. Wear clothes that fit your body Right now
This one is huge and honestly, it’s an act of self-respect.
Our bodies change over time. Weight fluctuates. Hormones shift. Changes in muscle mass. That’s normal, especially over 60.
What is not helpful is squeezing into clothes that fit 10 or 15 pounds ago. Tight clothes don’t make us look smaller; they actually do the opposite. They are also uncomfortable and irritating.
I believe in dressing for the body you have Todaynot the body you used to have or hope to ever have. Buy clothes that suit you now.
Choose pants that feel good (and yes, I will.) never go back to low-rise). If you want something to glide smoothly over your stomach, do it. If layering helps you manage hot flashes or temperature fluctuations, that’s smart, not sloppy.
If you’re working on weight loss, invest in a few good basics that suit your current body. If you feel confident today, you can make healthier choices tomorrow.
What if you have clothes you like that now don’t fit? One of the best tips I’ve ever heard is to move them to another closet or put them away for the time being so you don’t have to stare at them every morning. Just that small change can make a big difference.

2. Wear a supportive bra that fits comfortably
Menopause changes everything and yes, things change. Normally gravity pulls things down…ugh. That’s just the reality. At 60 I want and need lift and structure, but I do not wants to suffer from braces. Fortunately, that is not necessary.
A good, supportive bra immediately improves the fit of your clothes and how you feel when you’re in them. Your posture will improve, tops will fall better and you’ll look more toned without even trying.
Most women over 60 wear the wrong bra size. Breast tissue changes with age, weight fluctuations affect fit and gravity does its work. All of which means that the bra you bought five years ago may not be doing you any favors today.
I’ve found some great bras that provide support, comfort, and lift without the misery, at affordable prices. I always thought I had to “invest” in a good bra…not anymore! And every woman should own one good nude bra. It disappears under clothes and goes with almost everything in your closet.
I’m so passionate that I wrote an entire guide about it Most comfortable bras for middle-aged women that outlines the best options for you!
A supportive, comfortable bra is not optional over 60; it is fundamental.
3. Wear comfortable shoes (you can still have style)
I’m officially done grinding my teeth over uncomfortable shoes.
At this stage of life I always choose to feel good, but that doesn’t mean I have to give up my style. Comfortable shoes have come a long way, and there are now so many options to support your feet And look great.
These are some of my favorite comfortable shoes at my age:
- No pain in heels. I carried this shoe 12 hours straight at my son’s wedding, without pain! Now I have 3 colors!
- My favorite walking shoes. I love my walking boots with a wide toe box and loads of cushion (same feel as high-end brands, for 1/3 the price). Check out my guide to choosing the right hiking boots to learn what exactly you should pay attention to!
- Casual sneakers. These are the casual sneakers with good support I wear constantly.
- Comfortable sandals. Birkenstock sandals are an indispensable part of my wardrobe. (yes, they are trendy and literally designed for comfort)
- Dressy heels. I wore this dress heels for 4–5 hours before a dinner party. Maybe not all night, but no pain during that period!
Your feet carry you through life. Treat them well.
Comfortable shoes help you stay active – and exercise is medicine.
4. Wear your hair in a new, intentional way
Your hairstyle makes a huge impact, probably more than any outfit.
Whether you’ve gone gray or are still coloring, many of us are dealing with thinning hair, dryness, and constant root maintenance.
Believe me, I tried it everything: serums, supplements, red light therapy– you name it. I haven’t seen any dramatic regrowth, but I to have found things that make me feel better about my hair.
What helped the most?
- Shampoo alternative. I have stopped using shampoo completely. My hair is extremely dry, so I ‘wash’ with it this conditioner and the texture difference is incredible.
- Clip-in hair extensions. I experiment with clip-in hair extensionsand they are pleasure. Side parts, ponytails: they add subtle volume and instantly make my hair look fuller. I always recommend real human hair so that you can have it colored and cut by your hairdresser so that it blends naturally. Or request color samples before purchasing a full set.
- Hair toppers and halos. These can also be absolute game changers. They really change how you look and how you feel. This company will do virtual consultants and custom colors.
If your hair feels good, your self-confidence will follow.
5. Wear a body cream every day
In my thirties, I would put on body lotion whenever I had time. When I was sixty, I wore it every day.
As we age, our skin produces less collagen and fewer natural oils. That’s why dry, crepey skin and irritation occur more quickly.
I apply one good quality body moisturizer right after showering, and I reapply it to my arms and legs every night. The brand I linked was specifically formulated for aging skin, and I can tell the difference!
Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and shea butter. Yes, it may feel like extra effort, but it makes a huge difference in how your skin looks and feels.
This is one of the simplest daily habits with the biggest payoffs.

6. Wear sunscreen every day
If I could go back in time, sunscreen would be a non-negotiable.
Much of the solar damage we are trying to reverse now started decades ago. But here’s the good news: it’s never too late to protect your skin. Our skin is even thinner and more fragile over the age of 60, which means it needs even more protection.
I wear sunscreen every day on my face, neck, chest, hands and body. Age spots on the backs of your hands? That’s sun damage. Protect them.
Here are a few of my favorite sunscreen finds:
Protecting your skin today will preserve it for years to come.
These are the six things I choose to ‘wear’ over 60… not because I shouldbut because they help me feel strong, comfortable and confident in my body.
