“Grace” is not a word that will be associated with the 2025 Ryder Cup in Bethpage Black in the coming years. A minority of fans on Saturday has forever marred this event and embarrassed their colleague Golffans in New York. (For the record, we do not know technically whether the worst of the Heckers New Yorkers were. Fans came to Bethpage this week, and those Midwesterners are notorious rude))
But if you tension your eyes through the haze of alcohol and disappointment-driven chaos outside the ropes, you may have noticed a completely different picture in the ropes of the black course.
Because with this noisy Bethpage Ryder Cup, the players behaved with more sportiness and grace than we have seen in this event in years, especially the deflected American team.
Together they go against the prevailing story that these biennial pro -golf exhibition has become too heavy for his own good.
Dust-up on the course ends in apologies and hugs-in contrast to in 2023
Let’s start with the most tense moment among the players of the entire week on Long Island. At the end of the second session on Saturday, while the frustrated fans swing into European players in the midst of their dripping from the Americans, broke a tense match between European murderers Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood and American star Scottie Scheffler and Bryson Dechambeau almost in a fight.
Almost.
When Rose de Caddy Greg Bodine from Dephambeau from his well line on the 15th Green directed, roughly as Rose admitted later, Bryson did not take it friendly. A large amount of jaw happened between the players, caddies and assistant captains while they walked 15 green and continued while they waited to hit 16 T -shirt.

But then it was over. After the game, players and Caddies shake hands, Rose said on TV that he could have treated the situation “politely” and then on Sunday morning Scheffler’s Caddy Ted Scott released an Instagram -Dealing Video with his arm wrapped around one of his European sparring partners, assistant chapitein Molinari.
“This guy here has always just been a very sweet-healthy man,” Scott said in the video. “We had a heated moment yesterday, but what many of you don’t realize is that we got over it. By the time we walked the 16th tee, it was over, and none of us wants to make this competition about us … In the end I just want to spread love and joy. It’s a great competition. It’s very nice, and this is a big man here.
That is in stark contrast with the most heated moment of the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome. There, the notorious Saturday match between Americans Patrick Cantlay and Wyndham Clark and European hosts Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick turned into a screaming game.
European media reported that the American team was “broken” and that Cantlay refused to wear a hat in protest because he was not paid. European fans jumped on it and Cantlay and the Americans were difficult for the entire Saturday.
Cantlay and his teammates responded by waving fake hats in the air at great moments. In the last hole, Joe Lacava, the Caddie of Cantlay, went too far, waved his hat to the Europeans gathered around the green while McIlroy still had to put. A huge scream competition followed on the Green.
The flare -up continued in the parking lot, where Lowry held a furious McIlroy again from fighting someone in the American team.
Based on the press conferences after the tournament, the flare -up was never completely resolved. In fact, the European team maintained the conflict as a theme in 2025, in which Captain Luke Donald Zingers dropped with the American players in his opening ceremony speech in Bethpage.
Scottie Scheffler gives an example of class in defeat
Although Scheffler was involved in this week’s competition that almost went over the line, he was not at all involved in De Kaak.
And after the game, Scheffler made a point to check in with Rose and Fleetwood about the incident.
During a TV interview with Luke Donald near the 18th Green Saturday, Scheffler can be seen walking to Rose and Fleetwood, who watched the remaining games. Scheffler hugs each of the pros and talks to them for a moment. The three smiles, knock each other on the shoulder and then Scheffler walks away.

American players try to control Rowdy Bethpage Crowds
The third example of our counter story comes from the ugliest episode of the Bethpage Ryder Cup. In their Saturday match against Justin Thomas and Cameron Young, McIlroy and Lowry were confronted with mean, unacceptable insults of fans all long.
McIlroy opened the experience in the press conference of his winner and said about Fan’s behavior: “I don’t think we should ever accept that in Golf.”
Lowry said that the abuse is aimed at McIlroy’s wife, Erica McIlroy, “amazing.”

But few words were spent on the reaction of Thomas and Young during the worst of chaos. Only a few holes in the game, the American duo began to take on it to calm the crowds when McIlroy and Lowry hit.
Almost every tee and green showed Thomas and Young who held their arms up to violate the crowd and prevent them from harassing their opponents.
Then these graceful words from Thomas came the next day after the game, which the Americans lost.
‘Cam and I told Shane [Lowry] and Rory [McIlroy] Yesterday we felt for them. Cam and I just wished us to give them something to cheer instead of cheering against. I think that was a kind of most important consensus of the past two days, that we didn’t give them enough to cheer, and they just tried to help us win. “
Rory Mcilroy Troost Bradley’s children at Bethpage
The actions of grace were not limited to the losing Americans. McIlroy showed a moment of commendable sportiness and humanity on Sunday evening.
While the European team celebrated with the Ryder Cup trophy and gigantic bottles of champagne under the lights on Bethpage’s Practice Green, the wife of the American captain Bradley and young children came together to watch.
McIlroy noticed them and interrupted his celebration to go to Bradley’s children and talk to them. The moment was recorded on X by Baked egg wave.
Keegan Bradley praises the European captain Luke Donald
Given the incredible performance of Europeans during the first two days of this Ryder Cup, it is easy to forget that the Bradley team almost one of the biggest comebacks in sports history on Sunday and the Greatest in the history of Ryder Cup.
With a backlog of 11.5-4.5, they kept Team Europe on just one win and dominated the singles session 8.5-3.5, which bond a Ryder Cup record.
But in the stabbing pain of the defeat, and in the light of questions about his decision -making, Bradley took the time to give his opposite captain the ultimate compliment.
“I think he’s the best European Ryder Cup captain of all time, Luke Donald,” said Bradley Sunday evening.
Keegan has Luke Donald mentioned the largest Ryder Cup leader ever and the Europeans perhaps the largest team ever – but also weighs on the envelope rule:
“The rule must change. It is clear to everyone in the sports world. Nothing against Viktor, but that rule must change …

But it wasn’t the first time he said it. Not long before, fresh from the loss of his team on the 18th Green, Bradley called similar praise to the European captain.
Ryder Cuppers’ Hockey -like Handprint Line on Sunday
For a last moment of sportiness at Bethpage, the Ryder Cup teams took a letter from Hockey. In NHL Playoff series and other large hockey matches, the teams are then in line and shake their hands on the ice.
However, it is a tradition that is not light, however, Occasionally on ice, the handshake lines become chippy.
On Sunday at the Ryder Cup, when the last putt had fallen at 18, the two teams stood in line and participated in a hockey -like handshak line. Despite the intense competition that had folded away the previous three days, and the historical comeback of the Americans, there was no chippiness present, only handshakes, smiling and hugs.
That is something that this tournament can build on.
