Congratulations to the top 50 players who are still alive in this FedEx Cup -Play -offs: you have just earned a lot of money.
The Top 50 was completed at the end of the FedEx St. Jude Championship in TPC Southwind in Memphis on Sunday, and those 50 benefits will not only continue to this week’s BMW championship in Maryland, but they are also guaranteed in all lucrative signature events of the following year.
“It’s a routine,” said JT Poston, who was ready on 22nd Sunday to claim the 50th and last place. “I am clearly not in the fight to win a golf tournament, but it just felt like the same kind of nerves. You just know what is at stake in that top 50 and what that does for your year next year, and you are a good week of getting East Lake. It is a big problem with the BMW, so hopefully it is a stress.”
Stressful indeed! And it only gets more tense. Now comes the next Cutoff, which is the top 30 players to reach the Tour Championship in East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, where there is more money to switch off (and to win some nice benefits).
But first, here is a quick summary of the Bubble watch from Sunday, including the five players who kept their seasons alive by jumping inside The Top 50 – and the five that fell out and are on their way home.
In the FedEx Cup Top 50
Kurt Kitayama (52nd to 37th)
What a run for Kitayama, which placed in ninth to not only jump into the top 50, but completely up to 37th to give itself a strong chance to make his first Tour Championship. Even when he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational two years ago, he was still short of and finished his season at the BMW. Now he has another shot and he plays well. In his last five starts, he finished four times 14th or better, and one of them includes his victory over the 3M.
Bud Cauley (53rd to 46th)
Cauley only had one birdie and one bogey on his card by 16 holes on Sunday, and he was still outside the top 50 after he had hit an approach in a green bunker on the Par-4 17th. But he helped that for an unlikely Birdie, and after a par at 18 and T14 finish he was officially in the rankings on 46th. It was quite the turn for him-a car accident of 2018 was followed by a few injuries due to injuries, and suddenly he is in all the characteristic events of next season.
Tour Confidential: Which Bubble players from Ryder Cup need a big week at BMW?
By means of:
Golf editors
Rickie Fowler (64th to 48th)
Does Rickie get enough credit for the lifetime of his career? Maybe not. He went on Sunday for sixth place to beep with just two places. He only had two top 10s this season, but eight top 25s and only three missed cuts.
Jhonattan Vegas (56th to 49th)
Vegas made it interesting on Sunday with four bogeys and six bogeys, but he still shot 68 to bind 14th and claims the penultimate place.
JT Poston (51st to 50th)
Poston only had to go up one place on Sunday. After he had shot three under the front nine, he started the Achterste PAR-PAR-BOGEY and then hung with six straight pars to end his round and secure that last place.
From the FedEx Cup Top 50
Aldrich Potgieter (43rd to 52nd)
It was a wild, confusing season for Aldrich Potgieter, a 20-year-old PGA Tour-Rookie who became the youngest winner of the Korn Ferry Tour in his history last year. He missed four straight cuts in March, 47th in Texas and then missed three more cuts. Then he went in sixth place and then won the Rocket Classic in a play -off. His next four starts: WD, MC, MC and on Sunday a T59 that pushed him out of the play -offs.
Jordan Spieth (48th to 54th)
Jordan! He Birdied the 16th on Sunday to get three under his round and get the chance to come to Maryland, but he immersed his second shot at the Par-4 18th in the water, made Boogey and Bond 38th. Season passed. Spieth automatically missed qualifying this year for all characteristic events, but received a handful of sponsor exemptions. Will the same happen in 2026?
Jake Knapp (47th to 55th)
Knapp missed two straight slices In May he did not succeed in breaking 70 in that four rounds but then went on a nice run and logged three mid20 finishes and two top celebrities. But he missed the cut in the Wyndham and did not break in any round at the St. Jude, tied 62nd and fell from 47th to 55th in the Fedex Cup classification.
Wyndham Clark (49th to 56th)
The St. Jude bowed a turbulent season for Wyndham Clark, although not always for the right reasons. He finished well by binding for 11th (Scottish Open), Fourth (De Open) and the 12th (3M Open), but he did not make a Birdie on Sunday and shot five-over 75, making him 56th and dropped him from one of the last places.
Min Woo Lee (50th to 57th)
Min Woo Lee had captured the last place on his way to the week, but he opened with 76 in Memphis and shot 10 a week, binding with Daniel Berger for the last time.
