I am fortunate to be in a position within the golf industry where I get to try, test and play equipment that I don’t have to pay for. But sometimes, to replenish my own stock, to secretly test, or just because I really want something, I do spend my own money on golf equipment. So while I know my situation is a very fortunate one, I still want readers and followers to feel confident spending their hard-earned money.
These are my five favorite things I tested this year that if they were taken away from me, I would buy them again.
Wilson Staff Model
I have not been shy about my love and infatuation with the Wilson Staff Model I credit the ball for giving me more confidence on the golf course this year than any year before, and it was the only piece of equipment that didn’t change once all year long. I put the ball in play very early this year and it stuck. It is a spinnier golf ball that is super stable in the wind, rips on wedges and still spins within a reasonable window off the tee. In my opinion there is little they can do to improve this golf ball, but I am curious to see what they can do with the next generation.
Check out my article to understand my crush.

Mini drivers
Mini drivers are great for so many reasons. And the best part is that the market now has plenty of options. My personal favorite is the Callaway Elyte Mini because it sits in a really nice spin window, is incredibly accurate off the tee, and if I really need to hit it off the deck, I can. The best thing about any mini driver is its versatility in construction. I have done everything from building a 42″ R7 Quad Mini with an 83g axle to a 45″ BRNR with a 50gram axle. There’s so much you can do with a mini driver. I’m still not a fan of trying to replace your actual driver with a mini, but your clubs are your clubs. So anything that gets the ball into the fairway is good for me. (If you want to know why I don’t think it’s a driver replacement, read my article).
If, like me, you’re looking for control, I recommend trying the Elyte Mini from Callaway. If you’re looking for an absolute bomber, I recommend trying the TaylorMade R7 Quad Mini.

Payntr Seventy Seven SC Golf Spikes
First off, shoes without spikes are not golf shoes. Anyone who says that is wrong. There are significant advantages to good golf spikes with replaceable traction. (As a disclaimer, I’ve been working with the Softspikes team for a few years now and I’ve seen some research and testing that proves it, and I can’t wait to continue sharing them on this platform.) That said, the Payntr Eighty Seven SC golf spikes are by far my favorites. Right out of the box, they were more comfortable than any other golf spike I own, minus the Skechers (yes, the Skechers). I can walk 36 holes a day with no problem, and they are a great combination of stable and comfortable. The only downside I can think of is that there are only two points in the heels, but honestly I’m just nitpicking about that. I’ve never had any problems with slipping. Playing in the rain, walking through the fall leaves, or standing on a side hill; none of that is a problem. Plus, they were designed in collaboration with Jason Day, my favorite golfer. So bonus points for that.

Motocaddy M7 remote control (new style)
Getting an electric trolley last year was a great change for my game. I really enjoy walking, especially in the colder spring or fall weather when you don’t sweat as much, but I have problems with my knees and having to push a handcart or carry a bag can be more difficult than I’d like. So when Motocaddy came into the equation, it went So much better. I have other friends who have electronic trollies and it is even more fun to play and walk with them. There’s something about going for a run with your friends that’s so much fun. The conversations you have as you walk down the fairway, and the feeling of being a little freer to think about your shots as you walk to your ball, is great. The new style Motocaddy M7 Remote is super slim, comes with a new battery design with no wire coming out of it, and is incredibly easy to use. The remote control is self-explanatory and easy to use, and the operating range is crazy far. It is also very easy to travel to the course. With just a few levers it can be folded into a very compact size. If you like walking, but want to lighten the physical load a little, then the Motocaddy M7 Remote is the right choice.

Toulon Golf Formula 45
The Toulon Golf Formula 45 is a truly unique offering. When Toulon decided to enter the low-torque putter market, they wanted to do something different. They wanted to do something to add to the category, rather than just bring out a Toulon brand option for the sake of having an option. The Formula 45 is a 45Âş toe-up putter. It still has incredibly low torque compared to something like Toulon Golf’s standard Miami hammer, while allowing the player to bend the putter more traditionally during the stroke. Players who have used a blade for most of their career, or players who are so ingrained in their standard putting stroke, may see a big advantage in the Formula 45 compared to the Formula 90 or other face-forward style designs.

Toulon Golf Formula 45 Putter
The Toulon Golf Formula 45 takes the low-torque putter trend and adapts it for golfers accustomed to a more traditional putter stroke.
