Globe, Ariz. – Four people died after heavy rains caused flooding in Arizona, including three in a national 19th-century mining city where flood water forced people on Friday to search for safety on roofs and to wash a propa distributor, which spread around 1,000 tanks in the city center.
About 2.5 centimeters of rain fell into Globe, a city of about 7,250 people about 88 miles east of Phoenix, more than 24 hours and another storm moved on Saturday, causing the search for people in the flood in the flood, temporarily put in the flood due to good pouring creeks.
Streets flooded on Saturday in the nearby mining town of Miami, but no injuries were reported, said Carl Melford, emergency manager in Gila County. In the meantime, around 20 tourists have been stranded in parts of the Havasupai reserve, including at Scenic Havasu Falls, due to floods were evacuated, said Bureau of Indian Affairs -Disphatcher Shaileen Gonzales.
The external reservation only on foot, mule or helicopter is deep in a gorge of the Grand Canyon. It is popular worldwide because of its picturesque, towering blue -green waterfalls, but is susceptible to flooding.
In Globe the bodies of two people were previously found in a vehicle and another person was found in the flood water in Globe, Melford said, they were not immediately identified by the authorities.
Another person was found dead on Saturday morning in the vicinity of a vehicle that was caught the night before in flood water in the suburbs of Phoenix. The vehicle seemed to be empty after it was partially immersed in about 8 feet fast-moving water on Friday evening in a Greenbelt Park area, said the Scottsdale fire brigade. After the water fell a bit at night, crews found the body of a person who was attached under a walkway, the department said.
In the rural community of Globe, one of the oldest mining cities in Arizona, the civil servants of the Sheriff’s reports from people who might miss, said Melford, but could not specify some.
“We now have a huge search and salvation,” he said.
Rain flowed down and quickly flowed on Friday, Melford said. One of the first areas affected was a propane tank distributor, who sent around 1,000 tanks for residential issues throughout the community, he said.
“There are propane tanks everywhere via the center of Globe,” he said, adding that Hazmat employees were sent to the scene. “Fortunately, none of them inflamed or explodes.”
The area previously experienced floods in 2021 after a natural fire, but it didn’t happen that way, Melford said. The city is near Canyons who can lead water from the mountains to the community very quickly.
“This was an extremely heavy amount of rain in an extremely short period,” he said.
Videos that are shared on social media show that vehicles in Globe are wiped away by hurry, muddy water, with some broken into poles and large propane tanks spread.
Authorities ask residents not to find out in the flood water, because search and rescue officers are accompanied by dogs that can pick up the smell of aspiring volunteers instead of possible flood victims. If people want to help, they have to start helping friends and neighbors in need, Melford said.
The municipal councilors of Globe stated an emergency and said that they have never seen anything like the floods.
Dozens of people have been performed to do volunteer work, Mayor Al Gameros said, adding that many buildings in the city center of the community have been damaged. Civil servants asked people to stay away from the area until they could ensure that it is safe to go inside.
“Our primary is searching and saving again,” said Gameros on Saturday.
