On Wednesday, January 28, the Seattle Torrent took on the Ottawa Charge for their second game of the 2025-26 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season. The first period ended with no change in the score, but the Torrent got on the board early in the second thanks to a power play goal.
The Charge tied the game just two minutes into the final frame, but it was the Torrent who took the lead midway through the third period. The Charge went on a tear in the final six minutes, scoring three unanswered goals, giving Ottawa a 4-2 win on home ice.
Knight records her name in the history book
Just one minute and nine seconds into the second period, Peyton Hemp received one five minutes major for an illegal head check and a ten-minute misconduct. Late in the five-on-three opportunity, Hannah Bilka shot from just wide of the net, but Gwyneth Philips saved. The Charge tried to catch the rebound, but he kicked out Jessie Eldridgewho took a photo himself. The shot bounced off Rory Guilday in front of the net, and Hilary Knight rushed to pick up the puck. With Philips out of the crease she scored on the Torrent’s third chance on this play.
With this goal, Knight became the sixth PWHL player register 50 career points. This was her third goal of the season and her 10th point in just 14 games. Knight has been an incredible force in the PWHL, playing her first two seasons in Boston where she recorded 40 points.
Knight gets ready to play inside her fifth and last Olympics, but don’t get it twisted; she hasn’t said she’s done with hockey yet. Hopefully she has a few more seasons with the Torrent.
It’s also notable that Knight wasn’t the only player to record her 50th point, as Brianne Jenner scored hers with an assist on Rebecca Leslie’s first goal. Knight is in good company as the list of PWHL players who have reached 50 points continues to grow.
Eldridge gave the Torrent their lead back
Midway through the third period, Danielle Serdachny gained control of the puck in the neutral zone and skated it into the Torrent zone. She saw Eldridge skating up and sent her a pass. She took a shot and gave the Torrent their lead back.

Eldridge has also been on a tear this season, recording her third multi-point game. She also scored a goal in her last three matches. Eldridge currently has ten points this season via five goals and five assists. While Julia Gosling is still in first place with 12 points, Eldridge and Knight are overtaking her as they both have 10 points.
Eldridge was an important part of the top line alongside Gosling and Serdachny. Her consistent play and the number of points she currently has prove how important she is to this team.
Unnecessary penalties kept Torrent out of the game
Just four minutes after Eldridge took the lead, the Charge scored to tie the game again. With less than a minute left, Megan Carter took a two-minute cross-check minor. 29 seconds later, the Charge took the lead with a power play goal. Ottawa scored just 13 seconds later to secure their victory.
As for the penalty kill, the Torrent is currently in seventh place with a pass rate of 78.6%. Tensions ran high in this game and it ultimately cost Seattle the victory. The Torrent will have to look to correct their penalty kill in the second half of the season if they want to win more games.
PWHL on the way to Olympic break
The PWHL is currently on the Olympic break as 61 athletes prepare to head to Milan, Italy, to represent their home country.
The Torrent will be back in action on Friday, February 27, when they host the Ottawa Charge.
