3 Minnesota Wild Storylines to follow on the way to Training Camp – The Hockey Writers Latest News, Analysis and more

Training camp for the Minnesota Wild is about to start on Thursday 18 September and everyone is ready for the season to get started. It has been a long low season, and hopefully the game can start a strong start as last season, but keep it up. Last season was the first full training camp of the wild head coach John Hynes and it was a demanding camp from start to finish.

Several players had explained how the camp was more intense than in previous years, but that it was a good thing. It will be interesting to see if Hynes uses the same approach this season and how the players react. In this article we will look at different storylines to keep an eye on and also different players, starting with whom everyone could surprise.

Wild’s surprise step up

Training camps are an opportunity for experienced players to get back on the ice after a long season and go back to the routine of playing with their teammates. It is also an opportunity for younger players who have not yet cracked the Line -Up to show their skills and possibly steal a place if they do well enough. It is quite difficult to do, but it is not impossible and happened occasionally.

Not much has been opened this season on the schedule of De Wild, as long as all veterans appear as expected and ready to go. There will be quite a few young players who want to make an impression, but the one who will not be a surprise for how hard he works, and probably no surprise if he makes the first selection is Zeev Buven. He always gives 100 percent, and he is going to make a solid defender with more ice age under his belt.

Although Buium may not really be a surprise, there is another player who appeared well in the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase and could make it difficult for the coaching staff if he does the same in the training camp, and that is Jack Peart. He has shown many skills and his name was said a lot during the showcase. Although it will be a very difficult task to crack the line -up for the opening evening, it is not impossible, especially if he surpasses someone else. However, if he does not make the schedule to start with, it would not be surprising to see him on the road later in the season when the injuries always happen.

Wallstedt seems to prove itself

Filip Gustavsson has locked the starting point, but his back -up, Jesper Wallstedt, will go to Prove itself and show He has the opportunity to be in the NHL. It took him a little longer to reach the NHL than everyone thought, but they didn’t have to hurry when they had a capable tandem in place. Now that tandem has disappeared and he will have to perform to fill the void.

The original plan back when Wallstedt was drawn up was that he would take over the number one place When Cam Talbot continuedBut then the Wild brought in Gustavsson and he surprised everyone with his performance. Marc-André Fleury also kept hanging around, so the debut of Wallstedt took a little longer, which again was good because it gave him time to develop more in the American Hockey League (AHL), something that young goalkeepers need.

However, the time spent in the AHL is over, because the wild Wallstedt is needed to perform and to be their full-time backup. It takes him some time to adapt to the NHL, but hopefully, after a handful of games, he will find that comfort level and help them win games.

Kaprizov’s contract extension

Kirill Kaprizov’s contract. It is all that someone has spoken about the whole of season and even more in the past week thereafter The reported news that He would reject an eight -year -old deal worth $ 128 million, but it was never confirmed. He signed his last contract just before the training camp started, so it would not be surprising if he did the same, but it would not be surprising if it lasts a little longer.

Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel still have to sign extensions, so it is not a big surprise that Kaprizov does not have. However, it would be great for both he and the team to get it rather than later, so that they can concentrate on the coming season. Of course they are professionals and they know how to concentrate, but they would lie if they said it was not in mind, the longer it continues.

Hopefully they can get it done quickly and let the season continue instead of worrying about the business side. De Wilde have stated several times that they are planning to re -sign his Kaprizov, regardless of what is needed, so at the moment it should only be a matter of time.

Apart from whom the line -up will make as a surprise, the efforts of Wallstedt and Kaprizov’s contract, it will be interesting to see what other stories unfold during the training camp, because there is always something that pops up. It would be great if this training camp was the start of another strong season for the wild that it makes it all the way to the end.
