2027 NFL Free Agents: Running Backs – Dynasty League Football

2027 NFL Free Agents: Running Backs – Dynasty League Football

As we know, there are a number of different approaches in dynastic football. Some owners like to come out of the gate with a “win now” paradigm, while others are content with a few seasons in an attempt to build a long-lasting dynasty in the years to come. Progressive ‘windows’ can then be defined, whether one year, three years or even further away.

Regardless of the tactics, there is one similarity with any vision of the future: to some extent you still have to plan ahead! None of us are Nostradamus, and there are always risks associated with making long-term investments based on scenarios beyond your control. For example, a potential free agent may shun the goodness of a big-money team, thus failing to earn returns on fantasy investments.

But this is no reason to play scared! To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson: “there is no knowledge that is not power.” With that in mind, this miniseries aims to provide information and assessments on the 2027 crop of free agents – yes, a full year in advance, so you can stay ahead of your competition. Let’s continue with the declining position!

2022 and 2023 Rookie Running Backs

As we know, any rookie drafted into the NFL will receive a four-year contract, with a team option for a fifth year for those selected in the first round of the draft. Given all this, there is potential for members of the 2022 and 2023 rookie classes to join the ranks of free agency.

Of the 2022 rookies, not a single ball carrier was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. To paraphrase Bill Belichick, we are heading towards 2023.

There were two running backs taken in the first round in 2023, and these same two players lead the pack according to the current DLF ADP. Even crazier things have happened, but given how integral Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs have been to their respective offenses, it’s almost impossible to see their fifth-year team options not getting picked up, and I can’t imagine them hitting free agency until 2028 at the earliest.
