The second-generation Peugeot 3008 has been around since 2017, with a facelift in 2021. Despite the car now being nine years old – and a third generation being unveiled in 2023 – Stellantis Malaysia has still seen fit to keep it on sale, with a very mild update that will hold it off until a new range of made-for-ASEAN Peugeots arrives.

But first the price, which technically remains unchanged at RM169,388. However, a discount of RM31,388 brings this figure down RM138,000. The 3008 remains covered by a seven-year/200,000km warranty (three-year factory warranty, four-year extended).

The car remains as it has been since 2021, but with Peugeot’s new shield logo on the grille, the airbag on the steering wheel and even the 12.3-inch i-Cockpit instrument display, plus the Peugeot lettering on the tailgate in the brand’s latest, more angular corporate font (same for the 3008 badge). Interestingly, the metal scuff plates still feature the old Peugeot font.

The wheels are new too, essentially the 18-inch two-tone turbine-style alloys from the latest 408 Premium. Otherwise, the kit list remains the same and includes LED headlights with ‘claw’ daytime running lights, ‘triple claw’ LED taillights, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, six-way power front seats, paddle shifters, a panoramic sunroof, a ten-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, a reversing camera and a hands-free powered tailgate.

On the safety front, the 3008 comes with six airbags, stability control, hill descent control and some basic driver assistance systems such as blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and a driver attention monitor. However, it doesn’t offer autonomous emergency braking – even though there is a camera on the windshield – which is unacceptable at this price.

The mechanicals are the same as before: Peugeot’s 1.6-litre THP turbo four-cylinder petrol engine produces 165 hp at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm. It’s still mated to a six-speed Aisin automatic gearbox, and while the 3008 remains resolutely front-wheel drive, it does feature Advanced Grip Control, an upgraded traction control system that offers a degree of off-road capability.

The addition of Peugeot’s latest corporate identity to a now nine-year-old car almost completely makes up for the arrival of the new 3008, despite the fact that the latest model has been spotted – and at one point even confirmed – in Malaysia. According to Isaac Yeo, the ASEAN boss of Stellantis, the new range of Peugeots is too expensive for our market, especially compared to value-driven Chinese models.
