The second PGA Tour Signature Event of the year ends on Sunday – and with it a wealth of cash will be distributed to the top finishers.
For 54-hole leader Jacob Bridgeman, it could be a big day indeed. The 26-year-old fired back-to-back rounds of 64 at beastly Riviera on Friday and Saturday to open a six-shot lead. The Clemson alumnus has never won on the PGA Tour, but he kicked his game into gear last year when he posted nine top-25 finishes in 30 events.
Now Bridgeman is on the eve of his first Tour victory, but he will first have to deal with a formidable opponent.
Bridgeman will play alongside his nearest rival in Sunday’s final duo: Rory McIlroy, world number 2, newly crowned Grand Slam winner and owner of 29 PGA Tour victories.
“I know he’s going to play well tomorrow,” Bridgeman said of McIlroy after his round on Saturday. “I know I can’t back up at all. But I think I’m comfortable.”
In addition to a victory in building a legacy at Riv, there is also a nice payday up for grabs. Bridgeman has earned $6.9 million in 65 career events to date. On Sunday, he’ll get the chance to take home a winner’s check worth as much as $4 million from a $20 million purse. Second place will receive $2.2 million, with seven figures awarded through fourth place.
