2025 NLDS -Series Preview: Milwaukee Bewers vs. Chicago Cubs

There we go! After a division fight this season in which the Brewers took over the top position of the Cubs in mid-July, it doesn’t really matter if they will be in the play-offs! The fame of these two opponents on this point in the season will be interesting, and I really have no idea what to expect. But this is what I think:

The Brewers have ‘Thuisveldvoordeel’ for this, although what exactly is ‘home field advantage’ in a series where the teams are about 90 miles apart? So I would say that here is just about the window. Instead, let’s look at this on paper.

The Milwaukee attack became quiet in the second half of September and ended the season in a similar way when they started. The team also had a lot to do with a lot of pitching injuries, something they also had to deal with at the beginning of the year. Feeling a pattern? But after five days free between the last regular season match and the NLDs, we will see if those trends can change.

Attacking, the crew had a balanced attack for most of the year with Brice Turang, Sal Frelick, Andrew Vaughn, Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio and William Contreras who were at the top of the Order. Caleb Durbin, Joey Ortiz, Isaac Collins, Jake Bauers, Rhys Hoskins, Blake Perkins, Andraw Monasterio and Danny Jansen also devised things that prominently come into the stretch, while assuming that quick outfielder Brandon Lockride will assume that she will not assume that she will not assume that she will not assume that she will not assume that she will not assume that she will not assume that she will not assume that she does not assume that she does not assume that series.

For the Cubs, the attack is what worries me. Although they only scored six points about their three-game set with the Padres, they have the opportunity to score in bunches. Between Seiya Suzuki, Michael Busch, Dansby Swanson, Kyle Tucker, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Nico Hoerner, Ian Happ, and all the rest, this team is scary if they are equal. We will see which version of the Cubs we get here.

Brandon Woodruff is still a huge question mark on the pitching side, because the team has not made any announcements about his injury status from Thursday evening. Furthermore, Jose Quintana probably seems to return, and bullpen pieces such as Trevor Megill and DL Hall are also back in the fold. With Freddy Peralta and Quinn Priester in line to start the first two games in this series, the least of my worst is Milwaukee’s Pitching -Staff, but knowing how it goes in the late season, I will probably look stupid in a few days.

Although the pitching staff of the Cubs is not the best, they have also had their part of success here. Jameson Taillon, Matthew Boyd, Shota Imanaga, Colin Rea and Gift Horton (if he is healthy, what probably doesn’t look like) are all strong in their own way. The Bullpen has had one up and down season, but in the late season their deep bullpen with Brad Keller, Caleb Thielbar, Andrew Kittredge, Daniel Palencia, Drew Pomeranz, Mike Soroka and Taylor Rogers will probably come in handy.

We will see how things are going on when the two teams announce their schedules (probably Saturday morning) – then more about that.

*Note: In addition to Freddy Peralta in Game 1, none of both teams has announced starters for this series from Friday morning. I will fill in the holes below, because more is known.*

Saturday, October 4 @ 1:08 pm: Freddy Peralta vs. TBD

Freddy Peralta has been solid in almost every start this season, making more than three runs only four times in 33 starts possible. His last two two starts in the regular season were abbreviated, because he had only 120 throws over seven innings against the Padres and Reds. In those two games he allowed three points on seven hits and a walk with nine strikeouts. Peralta appeared during his career in six postseason competitions (three starts), with 18 innings with eight permitted points (4.00 ERA) and 22 strikeouts. In four starts against the Cubs this season, Peralta went 3-1, allowing eight points over 21 innings (3.43 ERA) to 12 hits and 10 walks, 22 strikeouts. Before his career, he made 22 performances (17 starts) against Chicago, with a 9-3 record, 3.21 ERA and 131 Strikeouts over 98 innings.

I look forward to this series, but I also fear a new chance with an early exit. Carefully optimistic, as I have been since 2018, I will take the Bewers to win this series in four games behind a number of strong pitching and timely attack.
