2025 High School Coaches of the Year – MAX Field Hockey

ELEANOR MITCHELL
Sacred Heart Academy
Louisville, KY

Mitchell led Sacred Heart Academy to its first undefeated state championship in the state of Kentucky since the KHSAA began sponsoring hockey in 2014. The Valkyries were absolutely dominant in Kentucky state play, winning the Apple Preseason Tournament and defeating defending state champions and rivals Assumption High School three times during the season, outscoring them 14-3. The Valkyries played 11 games out of state, starting with a trip east to the MAX Field Hockey High School National Invitational, where they finished 3-0 with wins over 2024 AAA State Champions Conestoga High School (PA), Mount Saint Joseph Academy (PA), and ultimately New Jersey Group 3 State Champions Clearview Regional High School. They faced the top four teams in Illinois throughout the season, including eventual state champions and No. 8 ranked New Trier High School, which they defeated 3-2. Their only tie of the season was against #10 ranked and Illinois state finalist Glenbrook North High School (IL). They also defeated three of Missouri’s best teams, outscoring them 12-6. The 2025 KHSAA State Championship finished 27-0-1, as the top team in the West/Mid-West region and the #6 ranked team in the country (their highest finish ever), and was the program’s 13th overall title, 5th since the KHSAA began sponsoring the sport. Mitchell also earned her 200th career victory this season and was recognized as KHSAA Field Hockey Coach of the Year.
