2025 Blackhawks training camp Q&A with Spencer Knight – The Hockey Writers Chicago Blackhawks Latest News, Analysis and more

The Chicago Blackhawks training camp was opened on September 18 and Boy, it was moved. Players seemed to return to Chicago with revenge. The practices have been intense through design, as part of the philosophy of new head coach Jeff Blashill to want a strong working ethical team.

One of the players to watch is the 24-year-old goalkeeper Spencer Knight, because this season he will take on the start of the starting goalkeeper on the Blackhawks, and he also came to the camp with a brand new three-year contract extension. After the training on September 18, I had a quick conversation with him. Here is the Q&A.

Thw: Congratulations on the contract extension. How did that come together?

Knight: It is something I clearly thought of in the summer and came to bloom at the end. I think it is a good deal for both parties, and I am looking forward to being here for a few years and to develop and grow as an individual and also as a team.

Thw: How was the exercise today?

Knight: It was good. It was difficult. They were many boys. Everyone worked hard and up and down on the ice. Good pace. Good intention. So it was a good first day, and we just try to carry the momentum every day.

Thw: Do you have first impressions on coach Blashill and how he runs things?

Knight: He is a very good communicator. [With] His words, he tells you what it’s like, what is good. I think he wants us to build winning habits and for everyone to play as a unity. I think it’s a great leader for our group.

Thw: How was your summer?

Knight: It was good. It was nice to relax and be at home. And it was a long summer, but it is good to be back and start again in hockey mode.

Thw: Do you have this year, or as a whole?

Knight: I mean, you always have your own expectations, but I think you keep those things to yourself. But I just try to come in, and this year it will be a lot of learning and growing as an individual as a team, which is exciting. So I like that.

Knight seems locked up

My first impression of Knight during our conversation was that his voice is wearing such a calm person. He comes out as extremely focused. The calmness and focus, I believe, could be an important asset for the Blackhawks this season.

Another thing that stands out about Knight is how he consistently refers to growing as an individual and with the team. A large part of a rebuilding of the team is growth. In fact, general manager Kyle Davidson said on September 18, that as far as the success looks for next year, part of his answer was: “I think we are looking forward to the continuous development and growth of our young players.” It also corresponds well to Knight’s point of view.

Furthermore, there was also a moment during our conversation when I asked him about his living situation with regard to his comments during his exit interview in April, where he described The process of searching for a place in Chicago. At that time it created an airy and fun moment. He told me he found a good place, which is always a plus.

With a brand new contract, an ideal living space and a group that he is enthusiastic about being part of it for years, there are many things tailored to Knight to have the season he is looking for, not only for himself, but also for his team.

And for those expectations that he stays cleverly close to the vest? That will be a storyline to follow the entire season. While he acts, it will be interesting to look back. There is no doubt that the expectations for him are high this season. But if someone can match or surpass them, it’s knight.
