With all now ex-rangers reporting cards complete, we can switch to players who are still at the club. Starting with the attackers and our way to the Line -Up work, we start with our Artemi Panarin report card. Panarin played 80 games last year and was the top scorer of Rangers with a wide margin with 37 goals, 52 assists and 89 points, which led the blues shirts in all three categories. Panarin also led the team in PowerPlay goals/assists/points and shots on goal. In essence without panarin, the Rangers were even more of a lottery team than they already were.

On the ice, Panarin was basically everything the Rangers pay for him. Although it was his lowest point in his Rangers career – with 3 points and 2 games missed – and a decrease of 30 points compared to the previous year, Panarin was still panarin. Hockey is the ultimate team sport where one player is simply not enough to overcome so many other problems on the ice. He is not paid to be a two -way player, and although he is expected to be somewhat competent, what he was, he is not to prevent goals against. He is there to stimulate the attack on 5V5 and on the powerplay. He did exactly that.

Criticism of Panarin is justified, but his game on the ice is actually what was expected. He led the team in scoring, drove a considerable attack and was actually defensive above water. His expected figures actually exceeded his production on the ice, which suggests that the overall team quality influenced his number. This makes sense and succeeds for the sniffing test. Again, at least for production in ICE.

From the ice is where things quickly become dicey. There was a rumor barbecue in Panarin’s house in the summer, where the whole team had to find out how he could continue after the Jacob Trouba drama. We do not know what was discussed or who attended the barbecue, but we do know how the season happened. Panarin was too accused of sexual violence Coming from an incident in 2023, which was arranged in the last season and was only made public in the spring of this year.

On the ice, Panarin was still a dominant force that led the Rangers in all attacking categories. He took a step back, but the rest of the team takes a huge leap back, a step back does not seem so bad. From the ice we simply cannot ignore the accusations and regulation of sexual violence.
