A rare 1836 built Heritage-Gente Huis that is thought that the Kiama’s very first permanent place of residence has been hit on the market, with an asking price of $ 2,990,000 to $ 3,289,000.

The six bedrooms with six bedrooms, three bathrooms on 19 Saddleback Mountain Road on the NSW South Coast is located on a vast land ownership of 3350 m² and includes a second 1800S Weatherboard Cottage with income potential.

Sales agent Daniel Dajcic of Harcourts Kiama said that the house, known as ‘Kendall House’, is steeped in the local legend and architectural beauty and has the distinction of being Kiama’s very first permanent home.

In his almost 200 -year history, the house only had six owners and Mr Dajcic said that the sellers of almost four decades have reached a new stage in their lives and wanted to shrink.

“They still remain locally, but for them it’s about contraction and it’s time to pass it on to the next family who can continue the story,” he said.

Mr Dajcic said that buyers were attracted to the important history and versatility of Kendall House with his double homes, next to the proximity of city and beaches.

‘It has been a broad mix [of enquires] – We have had Sydney, Southern Highlands, Central Coast. It has only been on the market for four weeks now and the research levels have been really strong, “he said.

According to the NSW State Heritage Inventory, the house was originally part of the “Barroull” Estate of the Kendall family, where Robert Kendall, son of Thomas Surfleet Kendall, had built the house for his bride, Emma Hunt, circa 1836.

Originally known as “Happy Villa”, the inventory notes that over the years the early house has been changed and added to and sections contains from 1866 and circa 1922, while it may also retain some structure of the original C1836 -Huisje.
