The Manipur police held two people in Manipur on Saturday due to the ambush on an Assam Rifles -Konvooi that killed two employees and injured five others, the police said.
A van that was probably used in the attack on Nambol Sabal Leikai on Friday evening has also recovered, they added.
Two Jawans van de Assam -reasons lost their lives and five others were injured when a group of armed men ambushed a Tata 407 vehicle of the paramilitary force.
“… Security forces performed a massive operation in Shantipur and ISHOK areas … Two people were held for further verification,” said Manipur police in a statement late on Saturday.
The silver blue van was found in Mutum Yangbi in the Imphal West district, about 10 km from the ambush location, the police said.
“According to the preliminary investigation, several owners of the aforementioned vehicle have been identified and there are still efforts to bring more details to light,” the explanation added.
A day after the attack, the Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla was chairman of a high -level security review meeting in Raj Bhavan, Imphal.
The discussions were aimed at the ambush of September 19 in the Bishnupur district, where staff of the 33 Assam rifles came under fire. NB Sub Shyam Gurung (58) and Rifleman GD Kashav (29) were killed in the line, while five others were injured. Officials decided to strengthen the coordination between security agencies to quickly identify the perpetrators and prevent similar incidents. Measures that are considered improve patroling, intensified intelligence collection and tightening safety in vulnerable areas, motorways and border zones.
After the meeting, the Governor visited the Igar (South) head office in Mantripukhri, where he paid tribute to the mortal remains of the two martyrs. He laid a wreath and a general greeting was granted in honor of them.
The government of Manipur has issued a statement in which the ambush was condemned and the condolences expressed to the relatives. It announced an ex-gratia of RS 5 Lakh each for the families of the deceased and RS 2 Lakh for those who were serious injuries. Additional support will also be offered for treatment and rehabilitation of the injured staff.
The government again confirmed that “such horrible acts of violence will not be tolerated, and everything will be made to restore peace and stability in the state.”
