Reiner, 78, has had a five-decade career in Hollywood, including starring in the iconic CBS sitcom “All in the Family” and directing a string of film hits, including “When Harry Met Sally,” “This Is Spinal Tap” and “The Princess Bride.”

Reiner was also a leading political voice in Hollywood.

He co-founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the organization that led the fight to overturn Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage. He has also been active on children’s issues over the years, leading the campaign to pass Proposition 10, the California Children and Families Initiative, which created an ambitious early childhood development services program.

Proposition 10 was considered a landmark policy. Reiner enlisted the help of Steven Spielberg, Robin Williams and his own father, comedy legend Carl Reiner.

Law enforcement agencies have swarmed Reiner’s sprawling Brentwood estate.
