2 collection restaurants of the 7-2 preseason win of the Maple Leafs vs. Canadiens – The Hockey Writers Toronto Maple Leafs Latest News, Analysis and more

The preseason of Toronto Maple Leafs rolled against their biggest rival last night, the Montreal Canadiens. After they had fallen to the senators of Ottawa with an NHL-Heavier selection, they recorded the Canadiens with a team that consisted of more frills and AHL-Calibre players. However, there were some players who were to be on their selection and who received the top six minutes they will not get during the regular season.

We also saw Easton Cowan pulling in his third consecutive pre -season match. He definitely gets an extensive look and has a real chance to make this team. It is not outside the realm of the possibility that he could do that Start the season with the club. It will eventually depend on what head coach Craig Berube thinks. It is perhaps best to send him to the American Hockey League (AHL) and enable him to play the top minutes with the Toronto Marlies to at least the American Thanksgiving.

Now, on to the collection restaurants of the game.

The new fourth rule of Maple Leafs?

Last night the Maple Leafs scored three goals in the first period. Scott Laughton scored twice, Steven Lorentz added another and Cowan recorded an assist. After looking at the first 40 minutes, it made me think, could this line be a good fourth rule for the Maple Leafs?

It seems to work. Laughton is a good face-off man who plays a two-way style. Lorentz brings a Power-Forward game that provides hard and goes to the net. Finally, Cowan has the playing capacity that the line can connect with its skills.

Although it was only a preseason match, the trio had a good chemistry from the start. As a group they were responsible for eight points last night. This can also be a good way to get Cowan on the NHL schedule and to control his ice age to start his career. Moreover, he would play with two NHL veterans who could help him adapt to the pros. Last year Laughton and Lorentz already have earlier chemistry of the play -offs, when Calle Jarnkrok was the third member of that line. Cowan looks like an upgrade, which could give the line more a scoring punch compared to a traditional fourth unit.

Hildreby earns the Back -Uprol in the absence of Woll

When the news broke out, Joseph Woll would be away from the team on one Leave of absence. Fans immediately started mentioning external candidates who could fill the void until he returns. The problem is that the Maple Leafs already have a feasible option internally, and that is Dennis Hildreby. After last night’s game, there should really be no other question about who the Back -Uprol should go. Unless he falls apart completely in his next outing, it is safe to say that he will be mentioned as the back -up goalkeeper of the team until Woll returns. What it looks now is there is no timeline, so Hildreby should leave a nice run in the role.

Last night he was firm against a Canadiens team that had many of their regulars in the Line -up. Sometimes, when he was tested, he kept his calmness and gave his team the chance to take over the game. The Canadiens broke 2-from-2 on the Power Play early, but then Hildreby closed the door and stopped seven of the next 13 shots with the advantage of the man. He got the whole game to show Berube that he could handle the pressure and wanted the back -uprol. He ended the night with Two goals allowed on 13 shots for a .846 savings percentage. With three games left in the preseason, Anthony Stolarz will probably get at least two of those starts. Which means that Hildreby should start one of the two games against the Detroit Red Wings.
