19-year-old accused after 5 shot in Connecticut Mall

Waterbury, Conn. – The police in Connecticut arrested a 19-year-old on Tuesday when shooting five people in a shopping center in Waterbury.

Tajuan Washington, 19, from Waterbury, is accused of five counts of first -degree attack and a number of arms violations, the authorities said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Washington is held on a bond of $ 2 million.

Brass Mill Center Mall remained closed after the shooting just before Tuesday 4.40 pm, which led to a huge response from the police and the shopping center.

The victims, four women and one man vary in age from 20 to 26.

Three of the victims have been treated and released from the hospital. The remaining two are stable and continue to receive medical care.

The most serious injured is a woman who has sustained a shot on the spine.

Authorities said the shooting was not random and seemed to have come from a dispute that escalated in gunfire.

Law enforcement restored proof of the scene, including items that are connected to the firearm.

No officers were placed in the mall at the time of the incident.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont released a statement after the shooting and partially said: “This afternoon there was a tragic massive shooting in the Bass Mill Center Mall in Waterbury, a place where everyone should feel safe. We are grateful to the law enforcement, who has acted quickly.”

Authorities said that the Brass Mill Center, although not open to the public from Wednesday afternoon, was thoroughly searched and deleted by the Waterbury police in coordination with the Connecticut State Police.
