10 best breakfast spots in Manchester
These 10 best breakfast spots in Manchester are all tried and tested, and I highly recommend visiting any of these popular spots in the vibrant British city.
Since moving to England over 8 months ago, I’ve made it my personal mission to try as many different breakfast spots in Manchester as possible to find the best and tastiest options for when you visit the city.
1. Pot Kettle Black

On my first ever visit to Manchester I found my way to the highly recommended Pot Kettle Black Cafe. The city reminds me a lot of Melbourne, where I lived for over 20 years, so it felt fitting for my first breakfast in the city at an “Aussie inspired cafe”.
They have what they call their ‘Benny Bar Menu’ with a choice of classic and uniquely flavored Eggs Benedicts. I went for the classic Eggs Benedict, which was served with house-made honey mustard bacon, perfectly poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on crispy sourdough toast.
Overall, the dish was an incredible introduction to Manchester food: fresh, flavoursome and wonderfully satisfying.
2. Ezra and Gil

I visited the trendy Northern Quarter location of Ezra and Gil and discovered a relaxed, yet cozy atmosphere in the highly recommended cafe.
Much to my delight, there is an extensive breakfast and brunch menu, which also included a number of Eggs Benedict options, so this almost turned into an Eggs Benedict tour of Manchester as my choice was for an Eggs Benedict!
On this occasion, however, my Benedict was a meaty Reuben, with grilled pastrami, beefsteak tomatoes and pickles. Exactly what I was longing for without realizing it! The flavors worked so well together and were complemented perfectly by the runny poached egg and hollandaise.
3. Elk coffee

Conveniently located near Piccadilly Station, Elk coffee serves a North American/Canadian breakfast, making it perfect if you fancy something different for your most important meal of the day. There is an incredible selection of pancakes, waffles, eggs benedicts and menu items served with homemade crispy potato hash.
I went for the Mighty Moose breakfast, which consisted of flavorful homemade crispy fried potato hash with garlic, onion and Dijon mustard and topped with fried eggs and bacon strips, served with toast and butter.
The breakfast was hearty and super tasty, a great meal for a day exploring Manchester.
4. Piccadilly Tavern

Another spot a short walk from Piccadilly Station, The Piccadilly Tavern is a lively pub serving a budget-friendly breakfast menu.
Having recently moved from Ireland, I couldn’t resist giving their savory Irish breakfast a try. The generous breakfast plate consisted of two Irish pork and leek sausages, two slices of grilled back bacon, two fried free-range eggs, two hash browns, baked beans, grilled tomato, two flat mushrooms and your toast with butter – certainly a hearty way to start the day!

5. Fluffy Fluffy

Go to Fluffy Fluffy for the fluffiest, freshest made heavenly soufflé pancakes in Manchester, which you can enjoy with a selection of delicious toppings. Due to the fresh nature of the pancakes, you will have to wait a while until they are baked for you.
We went for the Signature Pancakes, topped with fresh cream and fruit and the Nutella Strawberry Pancakes, topped with rich Nutella and fresh strawberries.
Both were cooked to absolute perfection, incredibly light, not too sweet, yet a decadent treat that is totally worth the wait.
6. Bold street coffee

You can find this monstrous breakfast burger at Bold street coffeewhich have a number of locations in Manchester. (And Liverpool too.)
I went for the Bacon Buoy which has a hash brown added for an extra tasty addition. The scrambled eggs were luxuriously creamy and the bacon and hash brown were perfectly crispy, a truly beautiful breakfast burger.
7. Café 19

Café 19 consistently has a line stretching out the door even when we arrived, which we believe was early around 9:30am!
We started with the incredibly rich and decadent hot drink with cookies pictured below, my son had a smoked salmon and avocado bagel topped with poached eggs, while I had the delicious American breakfast pictured above with perfectly cooked runny eggs, hash browns, super crispy bacon and light, fluffy pancakes.

The cafe has a lively atmosphere, the breakfast and hot drinks were well worth the wait and I can see why it is so popular.
8. Gooey – Viral breakfast at Manchester Spot

Another always busy breakfast spot in Manchester, Good one is known for its viral French toast and a perfect egg mayo sandwich.
We shared both to try their viral dishes and found that the French toast was not only visually stunning, but rich, sweet and perfect for sharing. The bread was super soft and doughy, crispy on the outside, pillowy soft and filled with sweet caramel on the inside.
The egg mayo sandwich was the stuff of dreams! The bread was lightly toasted and had the perfect balance of richness from the creamy egg mayo, alongside the beautiful gummy hard-boiled egg, possibly the most indulgent egg mayo around.

The cafe also has a tempting selection of cookies, donuts and other treats on display. As mentioned, there is always a line outside, but I think it is well worth the wait and hype.
9. Hampton & Vouis

For a healthy breakfast and the best coffee in Manchester, head to a small but lively café Hampton & Vouis.
I had their refreshing Acai bowl, which is also vegan and gluten-free. The dish is sweet, loaded with Açai sorbet and topped with a tasty blend of crunchy nuts, granola, coconut and blueberries.
The menu is also packed with tempting vegan and gluten-free options, perfect if you’re looking for a meal to suit a variety of dietary requirements.
10. Mackie Mayor – Unique breakfast in Manchester option

If you’re looking for a unique place to have breakfast or brunch, go there Mayor Mackiea dining room located in an exceptional monumental market building from 1858.
There’s an incredible, tempting choice of dining options, and you can enjoy a traditional breakfast or opt for ramen, burgers or tacos if you want something different to start your day.

I went for a simple bacon and egg sandwich, loaded with smoked bacon and a perfectly runny fried egg. I enjoyed my breakfast while admiring the architecturally stunning surroundings.
