When Tamara and Brad Picking grew up, the idea to spend $ 1 million on building a house was only considering the kind of things when winning the lottery.

They are currently building a house that will cost more, and although it will be their dream house, it will certainly not be “all marble and big stairs”.

What they get is a home that they hope will prove the future their own life, and their four sons Thomas, 21, Blake, 19, Hayden, 16 and Finlay, 12, will give the space and facilities to stay at home, possibly with partners, until they are ready to buy their own house.

“For our dream house it checks all the courses, all children get their own bedroom and their own bathroom, and I get a good pantry and all storage – plus a large island bench where the family can all come,” said Mrs. Picking.

Mr Picking said that “nothing as we grew up”, and things like Hydronic heating and solar panels would be a blessing, but a large part of the price tag with seven digits was just an increase in material and trading costs.

“You would have received pre-covid against a fraction of today’s prices,” said Mr Picking.

After they had taken it down the Bentleigh house, they moved for the first time with two babies in 2006, the pair builds with metricon – adding a second floor that will increase their living spaces, as well as the accommodation and bathrooms.

The couple initially looked at a renovation, but finally decided to demolish their old house in favor of a new one, given the costs of a full upgrade, were not much more – and moving was excluded because of the exorbitant tax costs.

“Stamp closed simply gave money away if you could invest that again in your own property,” said Mr Picking.

And they are not the only one. Another family across the street started their street with a new residential construction of around $ 700,000 before the pandemic, but since then about a fifth of their street has upgraded or is doing this.

The pickings are also quite certain that they will get more than $ 1 million out of the house, since they have designed it so that they should never leave.
