By taking one revenge measure on Saturday at the Erste Bank Open, Alexander Zverev created a chance for another in the Vienna final.
In a battle of the Top 10 players in the PIF ATP Rankings, Zverev defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 7-5, improving to 2-3 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head and reversing the result of their quarter-final in Vienna last year. Seeking his second trophy at the ATP 500 (2021), the German will next face Jannik Sinner in a rematch of this year’s Australian Open title match, won by Sinner in straight sets.
After entering Vienna with a shoulder problem and winning a third-set tiebreak against Jacob Fearnley in the opening round, Zverev has not lost a set in Vienna this week.
“I found a little bit of confidence in my body and myself a little bit,” said the German. “I had the feeling that it was a good match today. Happy with the victory and happy that I am now in the final against Jannik.”
Zverev leads Sinner 4-3 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head. The rivals have not met since their Australian Open final.
“I feel like that’s mostly my fault because he’s been in pretty much every final possible,” Zverev said with a laugh. “I didn’t do that. It will be a great challenge. I’m looking forward to playing against one of the two best players in the world and seeing where my level really is.”

Zverev’s semi-final win was his 300th tour-level hard court victory, making him only the eighth active player to reach that milestone. His surface record now stands at 300-134.
According to Infosys ATP Stats, the second seed reached his second Vienna final with a sharp performance, firing nine aces and winning 83 percent of his first serve points. He did not have to deal with a break point.
Musetti missed an opportunity to further strengthen his position in eighth place in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin. He leads Felix Auger-Aliassime by 420 points for the final qualifying spot for the Nitto ATP Finals.
