Zone vs. Gap Rushing – Week 3

Zone vs. Gap Rushing – Week 3

What did you think of our new zone versus Gap Rushing Tool? I heard from some of you who said it was pretty cool. I agree, I think so. This week the data represent both weeks 1 and 2, so we are getting closer to removing part of the variance (sorry, geek term). Looking over the numbers, I start to see some useful trends, which I will come up with later. For now you just know that you can view the defensive zone versus gap -splits here and the RB zone versus gap split here.

If you want a short tutorial on the table, just go back to last week’s article here.

Before we get in week 3, another is a quick message from our sponsor:

Week 3 Analysis

Zone -Matchups to operate

  • Pittsburgh (vs. New England): The data suggests that this is the best zone RB -Matchup to exploit, since the steelers RBs live more than 56% of their designed hasty yards behind zone blocking, while the patriots give up more than 60% of their yards to that schedule. Both Jaylen Warren (52% zone) and Kenneth Gainwell (67% zone) seem to benefit.
  • Miami (vs. Buffalo): The defense of the Bills stopped some of the leaks that we saw in week 1, but the jets could still reach the century. Miami is the following, where the’vone Achane (61% zone) will look to exploit the bills that still give up more than 58%.
  • Chicago (vs. Dallas): D’I andre Swift (72% zone) has run fast, but has not really enjoyed a banner’s day on the floor. This can be the game because he wants to exploit the Dallas D that give more than 50% to Zone Rushers.

Gap -Matchups to exploit

  • Arizona (vs. Seattle): as a team, the Cardinals RBS from James Conner (87% GAP) and Trey Benson (82% GAP) exceed many other duos that are performed in GAP schemes. For their part, the Seahawks come within the competition average when defending against the gap, so this matchup can very well determine the outcome of the game. If the volume is king, go with the volume game of James Conner.
  • Green Bay (vs. Cleveland): The defense of Packers has taken the headlines, but Josh Jacobs (52% Gap) still orders the rear field. As we have just discussed, the browns D is about the competition average when stopping Gap Rushers. If you roast Jacobs, you don’t need me to tell you to start him.
  • Jacksonville (vs. Houston): If you look at the graph, you will notice that both teams come together. The percentages say nick chubb (68% gap) versus the jags d (ranked 16one In Gap Yards allowed) but I prefer Travis Etienne Jr. (40% gap) versus the Texans D (finally arranged at 61% gap hurry allowed) just a little better – if the cats promise to play in their favor. Will they?

Zone -Matchups to avoid

  • Washington (vs. Las Vegas): The primary zone Rusher of the commander is lost for the season. Jacory Croskey-Merritt (7% zone) will have to start exercising that role against one of the most most most most most rangeest defenses versus zone-blocking (Raiders are#3 on only 27% zone haste allowed).
  • Kansas City (vs. New York Giants): We know that the Giants have one, if not the, best front seven in the game. They also have a top 5 defense against zone blocking. The chiefs are also a mess and need a victory to straighten their ship. Don’t look for the running game to play a major role in that. The Chiefs attack is 27one Hurry in zone, equally distributed over Isiah Pacheco (53% zone) and Kareem Hunt (54% zone). This seems like a situation to avoid what it costs.
  • Denver (vs. Los Angeles Chargers): Not many defenses give up less meters to hurry than the Broncos and Chargers. The data shows that both top 10 defenses are to limit zone -hasten. Attacking are also Bottom third in the competition in zone Hurzing. Beautiful! The Broncos are vulnerable to hurrying the gap (see above), but the chargers turn out to be stingy. So I pace the expectations with JK Dobbins (43% zone) and RJ Harvey (45% zone).

Gap -Matchups to avoid

  • Chicago (vs. Dallas): I have already talked about the advantage that Swift has in zone blocking schedules. It will have to transport the day (see what I did there?) Because his gap (24% gorge) at a top 5 defense versus gap hurry, is not going to cut.
  • New England (vs. Pittsburgh): As a team, the Patriots only live 29% of their designed recruiting per match of Gap Rushing, but their two primary backs, Rhamondre Stevenson (61% Gap) and Treveyon Henderson (50% GAP), get the ball in those situations. Maybe they should change it a bit, because they are confronted with the #3 defense when limiting the gap that hurry.
  • New York Giants (vs. Kansas City): The Giants mainly use a zone -haste schedule, with Tyrone Tracy (53% zone and 47% gorge) and Cam Skattebo (62% zone and 38% gorge). It is also a good thing, because the Chiefs rank #2 rank into stopping the gap that hurry.

That’s all people!
