Star all-rounder Sikandar Raza will captain the Chevrons, who missed qualification for the global spectacle during the previous edition in 2024.
The Zimbabwean team has a nice mix of youth and experience. All eyes will be on Brian Bennett, who has established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the African country. Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Brendan Taylor will also be looking to showcase his class in what could be his last appearance in a major ICC event.
The seam bowling attack of Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava could pose quite a challenge if conditions provide any help. Meanwhile, experienced leg-spinner Graeme Cremer will also play a key role as conditions are expected to favor the spinners. He is likely to partner Wellington Masakadza as the two frontline tweakers in the Zimbabwe XI.
Besides Taylor, Clive Madande has also been picked in the wicketkeeping department. He was the top scorer in Zimbabwe’s domestic tournament, with 152 runs in four matches at an average of 76 and a strike rate of 138.18. Another batsman to watch out for in the Zimbabwean line-up is Ryan Burl. The hard hitter can also bowl nifty leg spin.
Despite the presence of some talented players, the duration of the Zimbabwean season would largely depend on the performance of Sikandar Raza.
Zimbabwe are placed in Group B along with Ireland, Oman and former champions Australia and Sri Lanka. They face Oman on February 9 to kick off their campaign in the 20-team event. All Zimbabwe group matches will be held in Sri Lanka.
