Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has had a new chance to prove himself at FC Porto, while joining the club’s training camp for the Francesco Farioli season.
The 28-year-old Nigerian left back has been struggling with injuries for the past two seasons and made only three performances in the 2024-25 campaign and five in the season before.
Despite rumors that link him to a relocation-inclusive interest of the English club Leeds United-Isusi appointed as the 29 players selected by Farioli for training for the season. This shows that the coach wants to look at him closer before he makes decisions about the team.
On the other hand, four players – Samuel Portugal, Fábio Cardoso, Romário Baró and André Franco – have been omitted and are now free to find new clubs.
Sanusi, now completely fit again, hopes to regain the form that once made him an important player at Porto. Since he came to Santa Clara in August 2020, he enjoyed memorable moments, including scoring in the UEFA Champions League against Marseille and a last-minute winner against Rivals Benfica in May 2022 to help Porto win their 30th competition title.
With a new manager and a new start, this season can be the big chance of Sanusi to restart his career in the Estádio do Dragão if a strong transfer offer arrives before the window closes.
