Chicago Bulls big man Zach Collins’ season officially came to an early end this weekend after doctors determined toe surgery was necessary, preventing him from returning to the court this year.
The injury marked another setback in a difficult and injury-filled season for both Collins and the team.
According to Joe Cowley, Collins expressed regret to head coach Billy Donovan about how little he could contribute due to ongoing health issues.
The big man said he was disappointed that injuries limited his ability to help the team in the way he had planned for the season.
“I just told him, ‘I’m sorry, man,’” Collins said. “I thought I had a lot more to give him this year. Unfortunately between the wrist and the toe I didn’t have the chance to show it. “I thought I had a very good summer. I was really looking forward to helping the team.
“It’s been a frustrating year injury-wise for the team as a whole, but individually I knew I had more to give him and I felt like the team would have been in a better place if I hadn’t had all these injuries.”
Collins only played in 10 games before being sidelined as multiple injuries prevented him from building consistency throughout the season.
