CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The East Coast’s brightest young trotters will take center stage at the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday evening as the Home Hardware Maritime Breeders spotlight a high-stakes harness racing card for trotters.
The main oval presents a program of 14 dashboards with the first race after time at 6 p.m.
In the $18,000 Home Hardware Maritime Breeders three-year-old trotting mare division in Race 2, Supreme Rockette and trainer-driver Michael McGuigan will attempt to regain winning form on the rail. The EL Rocket The filly is owned by Jamie Whalen and has been very consistent at the highest stakes all season. Majian Mystery will have Jim Ripley on the bike, while Dusty Lane Kahlua will look to continue her strong sophomore campaign for trainer Lenny Myers, with Adam Merner handling riding duties.
The two-year-old fillies are in line for a $19,500 purse in race 4, with Bonmati looking to cap off a sharp rookie campaign for trainer Kuri White and post 1 driver Corey MacPherson. The daughter of EL Rocket was solid in each start with eight top-three finishes from nine starts for owner Blayne White of Pinette. Roseys El Girl has post 2 for trainer William Lanigan and rider Ken Murphy, while Dusty Lane Margo comes in sharply for trainer Ashley Gamester with Jason Hughes on the bike. Emberlees Rocket is the morning line favorite as she looks for her first win ahead of trainer John Clarey and driver Marc Campbell.
Race 7 features the $19,500 Home Hardware Maritime Breeders division for two-year-old trotting colts and features Little Louis as the one to beat. The EL Rocket colt from the Kuri White stable has been a standout in his division all season and looks to add another trophy to his growing list with Corey MacPherson in the seat as he looks for his 10th win in a row for owner East Coast Captains. Hoponarocket brings early speed and consistency for trainer-driver Michael McGuigan from post 1, while West River Karuna starts from post six for trainer-driver Clare MacDonald as the only horse after each Little Louis defeat.
The three-year-old trotting colts round out the action in Race 10 with another $18,000 on the line in Race 10. Dusty Lane Gus has been a model of consistency for trainer Leonard Myers this season and will once again have Adam Merner at the wheel in post 2. West River Jet is the morning line favorite and brings a big late kick that could take him into the winner’s circle for driver Ken MacDonald and trainer Clare McDonald. Fire The Rocket has been competitive in all recent starts and will have Jason Hughes back on the bike for trainer Ashley Gamester.
